Ultimate_Game Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 IMO let's save us all the trouble, including domestic players, and cancel all domestic cricket and replace it with a 6 month IPL. Looks like selections are based solely on IPL, PR and whims of selectors and not actual performances. When you have likes of Rohit, Kohli, Rahul and Jadeja in the CT squad and someone like Karun Nair doesn't get in, it makes a mockery of domestic cricket. The Indian team selection is like a cross between popularity contest and sarkari/govt admissions list, and once you're in you can't be dropped. Feel for Karun Nair. He was dropped after scoring a triple hundred in Test. And now couldn't get into the team despite breaking all sorts of records and averaging 750 in Vijay Hazare trophy! What more can a player do? How do you even tell domestic players that their performances and domestic cricket matters? Simply cancel all domestic cricket and have a 6 months IPL instead coz that's how selections are done - IPL and PR! BCCI and selectors, especially Agarkar need to hang their head in shame. When KL Rahul and walking wkt Kohli makes it to the squad ahead of Karun Nair, and Gill is made a VC without any rationale, you've to understand what's going on. I say we may as well replace selectors with ChatGPT coz I can see ChatGPT selecting a more deserving team than what the phucking BCCI and selectors do. The contrast between Kohli-Rohit and others couldn't be more apparent. These two were picked when they were youngsters, and backed after initial failures and in case of Rohit failing for 6+ years. And yet they don't give the same benefit to other youngsters. If Kohli and Rohit were treated the same way they've treated other youngsters, their careers would've been over before it got started.

To be fair, guys like jaiswal gill and Reddy were picked early, but they don't directly threaten legends' spots.

Difference is that these two performed at a high level right from the get go and the team never had the opportunity to drop them. Even then Jaiswal has yet to crack the ODI team and was dropped from WT20s team despite being the best batter in the team. Real test would've been if they had failed and needed support the way Rohit and Kohli were given despite failing in the earlier part of their careers. Backing someone who's already performing at a high level isn't really backing someone. That would've been backing Karun Nair, Jurel, Sarfaraz and countless more who failed in a Test or a series and then dropped. New guy, Norman and BacktoCricaddict 1 2
coffee_rules Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 (edited) Unlucky Nair. He should have picked. Screwed by Rohit Sharma yet again. If I remember correctly, Nair was dropped after the 300 to make way for injured Rohit. He was never picked again. Edited January 18, 2025 by coffee_rules Ultimate_Game 1
bowl_out Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 A player like Sanju Samson is not picked because he skipped Vijay Hazare trophy. But the highest run scorer in Vijay Hazare - Karun Nair is also not picked. Logic level - BCCI and selectors Ultimate_Game and New guy 2

Averaged 750 in Vijay Hazare tournament topping the charts by a huge margin and not picked. And then BCCI has come up with a "plan" to make domestic cricket mandatory. My question is what for? When domestic performances don't matter why the charade about playing domestic cricket? If domestic performances don't matter, it really doesn't matter whether the "stars" play them or not and that's why likes of Kohli and Rohit don't waste their time there. When domestic performers like Karun, Rinku and others are consistently ignored and sidelined, we may as well shut the whole thing down.

Even if he had scored, he wouldn't have been picked as the squad was already selected without any bearing on performances. This is all a charade and Samson not being considered is just an excuse and made BCCI and Agarkar's life easier.
test fan Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 Abe ek session ke form ke base pe select kar le kya to Karun Nair ko ?? Kuch session phle to ye karanataka ki team se bhi dropped ho gya tha. Lord 1
Nikhil_cric Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 We have too many teams in domestic. It's absolutely useless other than forcing the players to grind it out throughout the year. Lord 1
vvvslaxman Posted January 18, 2025 Posted January 18, 2025 They dropped Kuldeep, Kishan, Samson many players right after a good performance. Look at the spin options. Varun chakrvarthy one of the leading wicket taker in VH. But they have gone with trusted failure Jaddu for his "all round" skill. Why do we have too many finger spinners in this line up. Most of these guys Sundar/Jadeja/Axar will have to bat in the end overs given where they are slatted come in. Apart from Axar to some extent other 2 will fail in finish job more often than not. Why couldn't find a batting all rounder like Parag instead. Tunnel vision. rollingstoned and Ultimate_Game 1 1

Especially Jadeja won't lift his bat above knee until 49th over. Edited January 18, 2025 by vvvslaxman Lord 1

And if they wanted someone to score runs to cover for top order's failures, they could've gone with Riyan Parag or Rinku Singh. Nitish would be a seam based all rounder and should be used in SENA, especially 2027 WC. If they wanted a genuine wkt taker, they should've gone with Varun C who has been in great form in shorter formats for a while now. We went with neither options and selected Jadeja who can't do either. He isn't a wkt taker and can't score runs either.

What I was trying to say is that the reason they are including these is to hide RoKo inept performances. Of course, we have seen how limited Jaddu is in LOIs and I was not trying yo jistify his selection.

We have lost that ability of batsmen to bowl a few overs. Sachin used to bowl and often even bowled full quota of 10 overs especially in his early days. Sehwag, Ganguly, Yuvraj all bowled. But RoKo, Rahul, Gill don't want to waste their precious energy in bowling. Ultimate_Game 1
