Its amazing how calm Gukesh is in crunch moments.

He did the same to Ding in the final game of the world chess championship.

The reversal, Magnus choking from a winning position, Gukeh's nerves of steel. Think this will be a turning point in their rivalry, like Djokovic beating Federer from 2 match points down in 2010/11 USO SF @Muloghonto

Yes, Gukesh is a momentum guy. When he has momentum - he can win impossible games.

I wish he builds momentum after this. He is now just  1 point behind Caruana and Carlsen.

Gukesh is out of form, probably low in confidence. Magnus flying high, playing at his best level here. Gap in classical is minimal.

Anyway missing Pragg here, the way he is playing this year, could have made a serious run towards 2800 and collected scalps of these top guys.

Was fuming throughout the game but was worth it at the end. Doesn't matter how you win at the end. Gukesh found so many moves just to stay alive, finally forcing MC to crumble under time pressure.

Gukesh showed so much class and  grace ignoring Magnus’ assholery.

All our players are so humble, grounded, sporting, well-behaved.....good upbringing.

That was totally unnecessary from Magnus.

He should stop being petulant and act his age for once.

What's with that slamming the table trying to intimidate younger players like that.

He's slowly losing respect everywhere with behaviour like this.

Kasparov did something similar in his 1995 match against Anand in New York. Slammed the table, banged the doors etc, while arbiter was a mute spectator. That WCC started off with 8 draws (then a record) before Anand took the lead in game 9. But he got rattled by Kasparov's aggression and antics after that and lost the match. His team wanted to lodge official complaint against Garry's intimidation tactics but Anand played it down. Even Kasparov remarked post-match that Anand was chess ready but not psychologically ready to become world champion.

Gukesh must learn from his predecessor, this was Magnus' deliberate attempt to psyche him out to gain a mental edge in future encounters. Hope our boy keeps working with a mental coach like Paddy Upton. This isn't 90s anymore, we should be more ready for psychological warfare by our opponents. Guys like Fischer (all his crazy antics tolerated by 'gentleman' Spassky much to his detriment), Kasparov, Carlsen are notorious for this kind of behavior to unsettle opponents. Straight from 90s/00s Australian cricket's thug culture, Steve Waugh proudly called that 'mental disintegration'.

Guys you are reading too much into Magnus's behaviour ( or lack there of).

He patted Guki on the back later. It was a momentary lapse of self control.

Not a direct comparable, but I can share something funy ( at least in retrospect) from a few years ago.

I was playing a 3+2 tournament on Lichess and was 7.5 points from 10 rounds. The last round I needed a win to be end up as #2. It was a rook and 3 pawn vs rook and 1 pawn endgame. I was ahead on material and my pawns were connected. We played out the game and moment of negligence meant that as I promoted , I ended up stalemating the opponent. It was #5 for me and no podium finish.

In sheer frustration I knocked my water bottle. On my work  desk at home, I also have this real lovey-dovey picture of me and my husband from a vacation that we took. My bottle knocked out that picture and it fell on the ground. Thankfully the frame wasn't damaged. A few moments later my husband walked in. We had some arguement over some trivial stuff earlier that day and he said " You broke our photo for *that* argument?"

We still lol about it.

Magnus is a great player and a good ambassador of the game. He has actively helped Prag and Alireza when they were younger. Sat them down and analysed their games. I don't think he is spiteful or petty. He just had a bad day.
