'You Have A Problem': Sanjay Manjrekar Issues Gautam Gambhir Stern Warning Over Rohit Sharma's Form

'you have a problem': sanjay manjrekar issues gautam gambhir stern warning over rohit sharma's form

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that there is immense pressure on Rohit Sharma over his fledgling returns in international cricket and if he cannot make runs in ODIs, then there is a major problem. Rohit, who made his return to ODIs after six months, was dismissed for just two runs in the 249-run chase, although India bagged a four-wicket win.

Rohit has been going through a rough patch for quite some time, he had a forgettable Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he could just score 31 runs in five knocks.

Manjrekar said that 50-over cricket is the best format to score runs for any batter, which is why Rohit's issues are even more pronounced.

“Yes, he will be disappointed with the way he got out. Clearly, there's pressure. And, if he struggles to get runs in fifty-over cricket and to get a big score, then you have a problem," Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo. “Because I maintain that it is the best format for any batter, if you are batting in the top-3, to get runs and come back to form. And if we don't get to see the best of Rohit Sharma in the Champions Trophy, then there's a problem," Manjrekar added.

Rohit has scored just 166 runs in his last 16 innings across formats. India won the first ODI against England in Nagpur by four wickets on Thursday. The second ODI will be played in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.

Rohit on Thursday said that there is not anything specific which the Indian side wants to try and achieve ahead of the Champions Trophy but would look to keep ticking all the boxes like they did against England in the first ODI in Nagpur.

Rohit said that he was satisfied with India's performance given the side was playing an ODI after almost six months, but his performance will be key in Cuttack.

Both Rohit and Kohli will have massive roles to play in Champions Trophy. These guys are still hungry, and still have the passion to play for the country and deliver for the country. Simple as that.

Why issue a warning to Gambhir? What exactly can Gambhir do when Rohit and Kohli are undroppables and have been slotted in the team no matter what? Gambhir can't even get his players into the team and the expectation is for him to overrule BCCI, selectors, Jay Shah etc. when Agarkar and Rohit can veto Gambhir on any selection.

No coach can drop either Rohit or Kohli. They've to be removed forcibly by BCCI and the selectors. They have to do the job for coach to come into the picture. When you give any coach a 9 member team, they're gonna struggle to get much out of the team.
