Ultimate_Game Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 He's a great Test batter but sorry to say he's poor in T20s, and not a captaincy material for any format. Don't know what Goenka saw in him to hand him 27 cr! He's even a worse signing that KL Rahul! Ideally Pant should stick to Tests and at max ODIs but even that may be a step too far for him watching him struggle in T20s. P.S. - Now I've opened a thread on him watch him become MVP this season and lead LSG to the playoffs Frustrated 1
vvvslaxman Posted March 24, 2025 Posted March 24, 2025 Pant has a very large sample in T20. Post injury his game has gotten worse. He needs to play a lot of domestic games for his own sake. Ultimate_Game and tapandrun 1 1
crictime Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 (edited) The 6 balls 0 by him screwed LSG. Played a maiden over, that too in middle overs when field is spread in a high scoring match. Missed a stumping as well, which would otherwise had resulted in LSG win had he managed to dislodge the bails. Hopefully this is the odd bad performance but he has cost LSG 1 match. Bigg Brother Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 All he had to do was put pressure on Mohit in last over. Shahbaz even bowled brilliant first ball, missed stumping. Even after that he didn't try anything. He lost so many winnable matches even with DC, DC did right thing by not retaining him. KLR was curse but Pant is no better, LSG is doomed. Ultimate_Game 1

Number Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 Again knee jerk thread. Pant's DC finished 1st in 2021 in league. In 2022 they just missed out with a 5th place finish. Then he got injured in 2023 and 2024 he was still finding his feet after the injury. I would still say that he is not the best captain but still he is young and can serve his frenchise longer. His record in the IPL one of the best for middle order batsmen. LSG have their 4 first choice pacers injured so it was always going to be a tough season for them. They still almost won if not for a blinder from Ashutosh. Lord 1

His sr in IPL is good, I assume it must be over 140? However, there is no justification is wasting 6 balls consecutively for a pro IPL Indian cricketer used to these conditions. Not to mention that 15+ runs were common in yesterdays match, and field was spread a lot to easily take singles atleast if he could not hit big in middle over. He will certainly win couple of IPL matches for LSG this season but that does not takes away the fact that atleast yesterday his batting was atrocious and he was unable to execute basic cricketing skills expected by batsman i.e. rotating the strike. Missing one stumping happens (match losing it was though and it being last wicket), but 6 consecutive dot balls is just not fine. Maybe someone told him the green dot ball (tree plantation award) was for the batsmen. Edited March 25, 2025 by crictime tapandrun 1

To put things in perspective SKY has S/R of 145 (Average 32) while playing a lot games of his career at Wankhede. Yes, it was a bad bad game for him yesterday but he wasn't bought for one game. SKY has proved at international level with strike rate of 167, whereas Rishabh has strike rate of 127, which is way below par. Correct me if I am wrong with this stat. However, his IPL strike rate of 149, as mentioned by you is good. Hopefully, he shurgs off the bad game he had yesterday and shines in remaininh season of this IPL.

SKY is another who's on a shaky ground. Ideally he should be replaced by Iyer in T20s. Iyer has a more solid game and has shown he can handle pressure much better. Take away SKY's catch in the WT20 final, he doesn't have much to shown in ICC tourneys. He has played 3-4 ICC tourneys now and has yet to show up in a knockout. With the new gen team full of hitters, Iyer might be a better choice.

From 2020 onwards, his performance starting dipping in IPL. Sure, he did had some peak scores here and there. But if you compare his performance in 2017-19 to 2020-2024, you will see a drop in SR. The inns which he played vs Hyd 128* or where he blasted MI and Bumrah. He has gone down in comparison. Edited March 25, 2025 by singhvivek141 nevada 1

For sometime Indian WK batsmen will be under pressure especially in lois as automatically they will be compared with Thala Tony, who himself was beyond pathetic in t20s while good in Odis Pant came in that period when Tony was in his twilight years, still dragged his career and blocked a spot I have seen ,no matter how tough Pant pretends to be,he looked under immense pressure whenever he got to play for India This very forum was very brutal to him, just go through archives you will see there He can play and blast opponents out,he used to do it,but as usual he was criticised heavily for his breakfree attitude He started curbing himself and then the captaincy thing happened,he took it as a pass to get into the regular setup and became a boring consilidator, then this accident took whatever he had before It's very difficult for him to rediscover his mojo back New guy and singhvivek141 2

tweaker Posted March 28, 2025 Posted March 28, 2025 As a captain Rishabh has a good core of players. Marsh Pooran Miller Shardul. They can be supported by Prince Bishnoi. Pant should identify players from the reserve who can uplift their game when Pooran, Marsh,Shardul have off day
