Shardul Thakur needs to be in the squad for the England Tour

I know to some it may seem to be a step back but, looking at Thakur's recent form in ranji and ipl and also the fact that he has shed a few kilos, looks much leaner this season. We all know he is clutch AF and Nitish isn't quite there yet as a test all rounder. Views?

Yea he is playing like he has a point to prove after he was not bought in the auction and Reddy made the position his own in Australia plus the conditions suit his bowling there. He is going to play county cricket in May so there is no reason we shouldn't take him in the squad. He had a good tour last time.

Not a step back at all. I wanted him to play in Aus series as well. Regard Thakur very highly and he is someone who is always up for a fight. He was the architect of two of our best overseas wins - Gabba and the Oval in 2021.

He would've scored more runs than Rohit and Kohli combined and given us wkts too. He's one of those guys who shows up when chips are down, and I would take him to England.

What about nitesh reddy

Needs to be picked for Eng tour. We need to fill the team with players like Thakur and Nitish alongside one of Sundar/Jadeja. Need to add depth as our specialist batters are fairly useless.

Should never have been dropped for SENA Tests

Not as simple as that. He looked fat and out of gas when he was discarded. He has been a man on a mission ever since, with clutch performances time after time. For England he can be a good pick. With ability to take wickets and a habit of coming up with clutch innings while batting, he is a massively better option than a certain specialist underwhelming medium pace bowler who can't bat to save his life.

Fitness is not the criteria for selection in this team.

He was clutch when he played Tests too. Was doing the job as 4th seamer/no. 8

Would be a backwards step. But I don't see any lineup doing much in Test cricket currently anyway.

Not a backward step if brought in just for the Eng series. That's horses for courses.

Eng test team is no where near the Aussie team. We definitely have a chance despite some dead weights in our batting lineup.

Our Test side is on a downward spiral.  SENA tests wins for 2-3 years would be few and far in between.

Winning at home should be main priority.

Even SL away test series next year isn't going to be easy.

Backups aren't ready for Test cricket in both bowling and batting.

Pace bowling is on Ventilator & spin bowling would be under pressure too.

India must hope Kuldeep comes good for them & he has regained some form at last.

I hope you are right but I think we should play 4 quicks + Jadeja at 7.

Yeah I think it's imperative to win at home first.   Away Tests will be tough without a pace attack to take 20 cheap wickets.

Thakur has the swing ability for English conditions and has done well here before with bat too so based on his Ranji and past experience of this Tour he needs to be included.

Get him and Nitish Reddy on the plane on A tour for practice matches there- considering our pace bowling attack is weak we need some swingers who can hold a bat and make runs
