Rajasthan Royals has been backing Parag from 2019 IPL. Despite his poor performances initially they invested in him and bumper season in 2024 meant they retained him for 14 cr in 2025. RR decided to play 2 games in Guwahati in order to promote Parag further. If only players can do toss, will send someone random to do the toss). Let’s not forget the treatment Arjun Tendulkar gets/got at MI! As for Parag, he captains Assam too if I am not wrong. Or seeing Rohan Gavaskar or Stuart Binny play for India. Or any number of former cricketers getting their progeny to play at state level or in A team. Srikanth forced Aniruddh Srikanth selected for an India A tour when he was nowhere close to such a selection. Likes of Kunal Lal have played for Delhi only coz he was Madan Lal's son. Bishan Bedi forced his son Angad Bedi's selection in Delhi. We know of Hyderabad corporator's son who played for IPL as a quota selection and plays in Ranji for the same reason. Kumar Manglam Birla's son Aryaman Birla played in Ranji trophy only due to his dad and Birla's money and influence. In fact he was also picked by RR in 2018! And there're many more examples. At least Riyan Parag has the talent and deserves to get in the team on his own. Other examples which I cited are much more egregious. Rayan's dad was a cricketer himself played for assam and raiways, rayan has come through the system has played every group level. Plays and captains assam team, could be amongst the top talent in domestic cricket, still not sure of his intnl quality but he is good at domestic levels. RR made sanju the captain over some intnl. superstars and proven captains then no1 had an issue. The franchise thinks alot on this where do they want to invest in this direction, how they want to set-up their team and what will be roi on this... As for expanding ipl to other cities rr has been doing it for a long time, previously they use to have 2 homes - Jpr and A'bad, pnjb has 2, even kolkata also tried rchi as second home. rr and pk are small market team they are trying to increase their market and fan-base. Argument made against Arjun tendulkar is also wrong he is v.well know figure in Ind because of his father, but its not like he as skipped the Ind domestic system he has played all levels of Ind age group, play for a ranji side, he may not be the top talent in the cntry but its not like every1 playing in IPL or ranji is Ind cap ready. Ind has played shankar , jadev, sakaria etc who are not top talent even at IPL level. Not every1 playing ipl is top talent or ind cap ready there are many same at Arjun's level of talent/potential are playing in IPL/domestic cricket some may be below his level who would have playe 5-8 seasons The problem is if not the top talent makes to ind side be it selectors' mistake or the connections player used -- Binny jr. Gavaskar jr. making to Ind side was a problem. IPL is private firms they can do what ever they like what ever they think can be profitable to them under the laws and rules set-up, dhoni still plays for csk because ppl are coming in number to watch him, ppl are buying tkts to see him. What is wrong that these players use their star power to over stay in the team, they play 4-5 yrs more than they should have played be it players of the past or the present. Some are playing the formats which is not suited to them because of they are perceived as stars. Now some1 could ask the ind cric. board is also private firm why same logic does not apply here because cricket is played under icc which only recognize 1 board in ind whicch can conduct prof. and recognized cricket, its not another group can stand up and start their own cricket and say we are just a market competition trying to provide better product and let the consumer chose. He was very talented and played higher age groups from a very small age. So he definitely has the talent, and he has demonstrated that in Domestic cricket. Sure, he has been lucky enough to have received a long rope, but in IPL cricket I do not see any problem. As long as the same doesn’t transfer to Internationals I am fine with it. He deserves it. The questionable decision is him being handed captaincy when probably Jaiswal would've been a better fit.

I don’t see a problem there.
