We have made fission and fusion bombs. We can make high speed mach whatever ballistic missiles which are accurate. We have weapons to shoot down satellites. We have a modern drone program and anti drone defense system. Why can't we make a jet engine? All those are one time use engines unlike jets. Mariyam 1

We have a modern drone program and anti drone defense system. Why can't we make a jet engine? Main thing is sustainability. A jet has to fly for several hours in the air at a high pace, carrying a life. The alloy used in engines/turbines have to sustain the prolong amount of heat and friction for several hours. A subpar engine, we may see a jet plane who will fly for 10-12 hours and then be grounded for maintenance and repairs. We dont want it. In simple words, its like using a superbike which is usable for 3-4 hours, and then have to be at a service center for a week coz it's components are deep fried due to immense heat. Too much cost and very less return of value. Mariyam 1

Question of money + indigenous expertise + indigenous capability to overcome these challenges. Edited June 1, 2025 by EnterTheVoid Mariyam and Stan AF 2

Because a jet engine has 1000s of moving parts - requires technological knowhow of very complex metallurgy and cooling technology. Its just not fighter jets - even commercial jets - barely 2-3 countries make them - the largest two being Boeing and Airbus ( which is a European consortium and not a one country program ). Countries who have succeeded have spent 100s of billions of dollars on R&D, the F35/F22 program was trillions of dollars. We have spent peanuts on R&D ( less than a billion dollars IIRC ). We have spent more on laadi behna schemes in 1 year than R&D on jet engines in 3 decades. Mariyam and raki05 2
cowboysfan Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 i hope we are prepared against drones attacks like the ones Ukraine did just now by launching them from moving trucks right next to 4 air bases, the air defense didnt even have time to setup before they destroyed over 40 aircraft.this is one of the greatest attacks on airbases and the cost is peanuts Stan AF and Mariyam 1 1
rkt.india Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 US offering F35 is in news regularly but we should ask for F22 or nothing. TOT, full autonomy, etc. One squadron of F22. If US denies F22 then opt for cheaper Su-57.

Private sector entering in frame means we have already reverse engineered or very close to reverse engineering or have got TOT from somewhere who can’t declare that they have given it to us, to avoid US wrath. Be vey clear., HAL can’t produce reverse engineered engine but Private Sector can. So HAL shares it with them Edited June 3, 2025 by mishra

Stealth is just a corporate Jargon. Nothing is stealth. You just need better radar. Knowing the impact of corporate world and sales tactics, I think SU-57 is better than F-35. If SU-35 have got Mach 2 higher payload, longer distance and better Radar, a decade later than F-35 airframe design, You can bet F35 has no chance compared to SU-57 Edited June 5, 2025 by mishra
mishra Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 (edited) Also, We need to ask why Russia offered Su-57 Co production and full autonomy. Did they observed that Kaberi Gen2 engine which is currently being tested in Russia is good enough to lift a jet with a bit of metallurgy. I think Kaveri is there, just some metallurgy will give it better weight to thrust ratio. What I want to say is Kaveri is 1158 kgs despite being smallest in volume. Just a lighter and more durable metal wil make it fly not just Tejas MKI but may be MKII and AMCA. We are just about to arrive in jet arena. A little patience and some money is what we need. Target is increase the thrus by just 9-10 KN and brig down weight under 1000kgs and it would be best engine in its category Edited June 5, 2025 by mishra
