We won't leak as much with old ball. Batting depth is important unless it's another road

We will especially if the forecast of heat wave plays out - also the only reason Sundar got a wicket was because Jadeja bowled that last over well within 2mins & Stokes tried to play (defensive) for lunch! Also did no one see WS' economy rate for the game

Siraj's fitness will be under microscope. I don't see the point of playign Reddy if they are not using his bowling services. They can go with kuldeep in place of Reddy.

I would prefer 6 high quality batters + 4 high quality bowlers + 1 all-rounder for Team balance.

6 quality batters can collapse. That is the problem in England. Suddenly cloud cover they can implode to score like 80/5. THen suddenly ball gets older. You need someone to stand up at that point. India was 211/5 in the 2nd test.  If we had given England 350 total they would have steamrolled us.

Washington and Reddy basically played as batsmen who bowled a bit.

We are basically playing with just 3 bowlers + allrounder.

Not sure if this is good enough to take 20 wickets everytime.

The biggest difference, in this game, was the huge first innings total & yes the catches taken at slips! I'm expecting at least one bad innings if the next pitch is even remotely spicy - in which case it's a lottery & basically anything can happen.

In case there is a batting collapse, ability to take 20 wickets is what can save us.

Jadeja

Gill

Sai

Pant

Jurel

Kuldeep

Akash

Arshdeep

Bumrah

4 proper bowlers plus Jaddu. Arsh plays ahead of Siraj mainly for workload reasons, want fresh Siraj in final 2 tests....also Lord's slop can help sardarji.

Don't want bits and pieces players, so KD as well as Sai, Jurel.....even if latter two fail, I am cool with it, they have age on their side and high ceiling from eye test. Jurel played well with the tail in India, against Poms, so he is my #7.

Problem was third seamer. Not 4th or 5th bowler. It was not a spinning track for one thing besides on last day where Jadeja got rough to work with. Their job is to hold one end if they could. Also lends a bit of variety. If he can prize out one specific batsman in this sundar taking out Stokes that is more than enough.  India will go on the defensive moment they don't score big. Biggest influence in the 2nd test was the mammoth score we put up and sticking them in last session of 2nd day. Mental weariness played a major role. in the WTC final, 5th test, First test we simploy could not outbat them because either our top orer failed or lower order failed.  Batting big is the best way to go on flat pitches. Even run of the mill bowlers can make an impact in such situations. But if the target is less even best bowlers can go on the defensive.

NKR  also played well with tail in Aus. Sundar is a damn good bat too. Also young.

However would keep Jurel and give him gloves as Pant's workload is too much. Sundar for Sai imo

I wonder why Sundar is typecast as a lower order batsman who can bowl offspin.

He can never be a genuine spinner but he can very well become a 'specialist' batsman who can give value with bowl.

He just need 3 tests in middle order as a batsman and you never know what he can deliver batting wirh actual bastman.

There are enough indications we will be getting a spicy pitch. Stokes has demanded a spicy pitch. So i won't mind if they go with Arshdeep as well along with Akash deep, Bumrah, Siraj. This way Bumrah can be used as and when needed rather than bowl all the time when others struggle.

If Sundar has to flourish as a bowler you have to give him a lot of overs. You cannot use him after 40 overs, 50 overs for 2 r o3 overs. Spinners find rhythm by bowling a lot of overs. He is a bowler first then btasman even for his state. In India against NZ he bowled better than both the veteran spinners and kuldeep yadav.

we will see,i don't rate our batsmen on seaming wickets but the Poms are even worse on those wickets.

All the more reason India needs a bit of depth. Two bowlers come after injury break. Only way of rendering them importent is by making them bowl long spells.

Reddy will come into play aka Wiaan Mulder style  at least at  Lords that slope helps.  I'd go unchanged on this one.  Perhaps rest Siraj as he doesn't look like 100% after that second inns in Edgbaston.

If there was a place where a medium pace al rounder can work in England it's Lords.

Siraj can  make way for Arshdeep as he is also taller like prasidh. But he has a better jump and ability to swing and he can bounce as well. Plus he can create a rough outside the off with his landing.

If the pitch is like the one we had for WTC final pitch will get flatter as the match goes on. First two days saw 28 wickets falling. So India needs to make sure we don't get blown away.  Also these funky T20 style shots may work in overly helpful conditions  as few edges here and there can put bowling off and England bats deep.
