Are more DRS reviews reserved for Bumrah? Is Bumrah brought back only to clean the tail? Couple of guys showed stats here, where Bumrah's workload is higher than even Siraj's in recent years, despite lesser number of innings. A strike bowler like him is made to bowl 20-25 overs a day....any problem for the captain, he closes his eyes and gives the ball to Bumrah. A Ferrari being handled like a truck in BGT is the reason we are here, where Bumrah's workload has to be managed from now on. Not preference, straight up abuse bolo where this man's physical and mental limits were tested to breaking point. Being given the more conducive bowling end or the ball when it is in a more potent condition. Basically, giving him every edge we can while the rest have to work things around.

The point I was making is that Bumrah is given every edge he needs while the rest have to do the donkey work.

jalebi_bhai Posted August 8, 2025 Posted August 8, 2025 ICF really confounds me sometimes. On one hand people blow a fuse when RoKo get any sort of preferential treatment. But when it comes to Bumrah, there are plenty of excuses going around. People are more than willing to justify 'Feed the King to starve the subjects' type of logic. VT87 and putrevus 2

Granted, it was ill advised from Rohit, who was desperately trying to save his Test career. Otherwise Bumrah's workload has been well managed. He skipped a lot of home series early on in his test career as Umesh-Shami-Ishant were brilliant at home.

How come HAzlewood/STarc/Cummins could not defend 326 against a rookie team, or remove to injured players Ashwin/Vihari at the SCG. They are allowed to go missing from time to time. If you say Bumrah average goes from 19 to 30 in 5 years everyone will criticize him as well. That is what happened with Rohit/Kohli. He is a strike bowler. Not a work horse. India used him like a workhorse and strike bowler at the old trafford. He bowled 33 overs. Kamboj bowled 16 overs. Manucrick and BacktoCricaddict 2

I don't remember how it was when Bumrah and Shami bowled together, because those two were closer in strength before 2023. Edited August 8, 2025 by Gollum

You still haven't given a single example of this preferential treatment? He bowls as many overs or more than other pacers, he bowls in all phases to batsmen, he bowls with both new and old ball, he is always ready to talk if other bowlers want an advice so what is the supposed preferential treatment here? Statistics of Ishant sharma and Shami get better whenever they played with Bumrah. It is nonsense that people suggest you get some "special overs" because you are the best bowler in the team. Siraj case is an anamoly. Next theory will be Akash deep performance suffers whenever he bowls with Prasidh krishna.

Criticism has to be constructive though. Anyone can pick silly correlations to match their biases. Out of 14 SENA centuries of Virat, India only won 2 matches. In fact India won more matches in SENA when Virat got out less than 50 than when he scored 50+. Does this mean even in his peak, Virat's runs were hurting the team? Will you say that India would have won more if Viart was never selected into national team? Its just a stupid correlation. If you can actually point out what Bumrah's preferential treatment was and how it hurt the team, we can have a discussion express bowling 1

This thread is specifically about the narrative of how him being in the team is hurting other bowlers performance. So unless you too subscribe to that theory, you might wnat to word your comments differently? I'm not against pointing out Bumrah's actual failures. He choked royally in the first WTC final. His tour to Nz was a disaster. In general he has never been good against Nz. He didn't live up his reputation in 2019 wc and 2021 wt20. All of these are valid criticisms that has been discussed multiple times. But saying that India won 2 tests because Bumrah wasn't there or Siraj failed in three tests because he's sharing the ball with Bumrah is a stupid narrative. Lord, tapandrun and vvvslaxman 1 2
AKane Posted August 8, 2025 Posted August 8, 2025 (edited) I mean 5th test at Birmingham 2022 - Bumrah and Shami leading attack, Siraj and Thakur bowlers 3 and 4. 378 to win, 300 for 3, Bairstow and Root batting and England win by 7 wkts. Series is 2-2. Again 5th test at Oval 2025 - Siraj, Akashdeep and Prasidh the bowlers, 374 to win, 300 for 3, Brooks and Root batting and India win by 6 runs. Series is 2-2. The parallels are eerie and that is why people are reacting......no way to sugar coat it, these are facts and Bumrah fans (and Shami fans) and all of us have to accept it. DIfferent conditions. 2022 Siraj was absolutely butchered by England on that road. Same way first test it was remotely bowler friendly. ONly because of our tail we couldn't put an above par score. Last test there was significant lateral movement with ball. Match would not have gone that far with Bumrah.

Well true but for example in the 5th test at Birmingham where Siraj bowled badly in 2022 with Bumrah and Shami leading the attack, Siraj bowled his first over in the first inning at over 15 and then second over in over 23. That affects a young fast bowler.... mentally. Bumrah and Shami bowled 21 of the first 22 overs. BTW Thakur bowled his first over in over 38. Here Siraj is given the new ball and is the man.
