G_B_ Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 One can say same thing about telugus in the usa/west and tech companies. Huge groupism.
G_B_ Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 And there is also nothing "free market" or "capitalistic" that Marvadis do. A Marwadi businessman will aid another Marwadi businessman over making a profit with a non-Marwadi businessman. Seen it with my own eyes as a very good friend is marvadi. This is not how capitalism works. It starts to become a cartel. India in general, suffers from groupism (be it regional identity or caste). Be it Parsis who Dhirubai Ambani had to fight against to now the Telugu businessman trying to fight off the marvadis. Bollywood has a huge Punjab lobby. I have asked seevral marvadis why marvad remains one of the most backward regions of India. They shrugged and looked embarrassed. Then one spoke candidly. The tactics marvadis apply simply does not work on other marvadis as they are wise to it. I shall leave it at that.... Stan AF 1

Ye sab purani baat hai.... these days in delhi many small retailers have simply closed shop due to e-commerce and esp. quick commerce.

kepler37b Posted August 22, 2025 Author Posted August 22, 2025 A clash between telugu upwardly mobile entrepreneurs and the marwari cartel. Interestingly the anger against marwaris is prominent in small towns in Telangana. Not much in Hyderabad where there is strong retail presence. It might be just that the marwari cartels have pushed the small time local merchants out of business.

Retail shopkeepers can barely squeeze out the shop rent here in Delhi , there's less income due to quick commerce... this would be true in several cities.
bharathh Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Stupid pettiness against a more prosperous community. A better campaign (if ppl felt so strongly) was to not shop at marwari shops. Just political nonsense to divert people from real issues. This is just one less successful cartel protesting against another. BacktoCricaddict, Lord, AuxiliA and 1 other 2 2

Obviously the marwaris don't seem to bother the actual customers.

kepler37b Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 When the ambedkarite groups came( or demanded fair share depending on perspective) for land and jobs and education, the banias that controlled supply chain and capital have been silent. Now it is for them to face the music. Papa Modi has been a large plus for baniyas. He has restricted competition from goras and chinks(nationalism saar), helped them with numerous production linked incentives, gave them loan waivers and tax cuts, and also taxed the middle class mercilessly to cover for all of these. Let's see how the future goes. someone and Stan AF 2

bsriharsha Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Some bad eggs among the Marwari community spoiling it for most people who are hardworking. Case in point, Troop Bazaar, Hyderabad. Unless , you know the shop , you will not get original stuff. Plenty of people coming in , setting up shop, undercutting competition and selling counterfeit stuff often without bills/gst etc.
crictime Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 Irrespective of the community or religion of shop owners, I have had bad experience with retail shops trying to sell duplicate products, expired products, products with spoiled packaging which impacts the quality of the product. Not in every case but the shopkeepers are aware that they are intentionally selling such things and trying to cheat consumers. The online shopping options for household goods are now more with Grofers, Jio Mart, Big Basket, Amazon etc. and the products are well intact and original. Moreover, now all reputed Indian and foreign e-commerce chains have started delivering as per expectations. It is so good that now my 90 percent order value goes to these ecommerce chains and just 10 percent or less to retail shops in locality. Last week, 3 orders were delivered in average time of less than half hour each. one order was delivered in 10 minutes.
cowboysfan Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 assholes of the highest order ,there is a sizeable Telugu community in every state south of the Vindyas-how will they feel if the natives behaved in the same way?

AI reply, bolded part is applicable for me, i guess the first language both in Delhi, Mumbai these days is Hinglish. "People often use mother tongue and first language interchangeably, but they don’t always mean exactly the same thing. Here’s the difference: Mother Tongue Usually refers to the language a person learns from their mother, family, or community in early childhood. It’s tied to cultural identity, emotions, and home environment. Even if someone stops using it later, it remains their “native” language. Example: A child born in a Tamil-speaking household in Chennai has Tamil as their mother tongue—even if later they mostly speak English. First Language Refers to the first language a person acquires naturally. In many cases, it’s the same as mother tongue, but not always. If a child grows up in a multilingual setting, they might acquire two first languages (bilingual first language acquisition). Example: A baby born in Delhi to Tamil-speaking parents but raised in a Hindi-speaking neighborhood may end up speaking Hindi first—so Hindi becomes their first language, even if Tamil is technically their mother tongue. Key Difference Mother tongue = cultural/ancestral/home language. First language = the language you start speaking earliest and most naturally." Mariyam 1
