Did India lose credibility when the “cheap” Russian oil did not result in reduced prices at petrol stations for the common man ?

People are overcomplicating the issue.

When international prices were increased, prices in India were too. Thats okay.

But when international prices decreased significantly, prices in India were NOT reduced.

The so called stability is at higher prices. That too after mixing ethanol

It increases price of everything. So people have right to complain.

Ofcourse all parties are responsible for this at state levels

Overall Inflation levels are incredibly low right now by our standards. So price rise isn't the problem.

The govt needs taxes from oil to fund it's plethora of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects. They also eased the income tax a bit.

Atleast the oil and gas prices haven't been increased for the past 3-4 years. The public has gotten used to it. Makes no sense reducing it.

tax slabs were changed, heavy investment in infra and defence, now change in gst slabs. from where do you thing money for all of it is coming ?

Reduced GST slabs 5% and 18%. Some items in 12% might move to 18%, essentials to 5%. One in 28% will be 18% , we’re not much in volume because it was taxed higher. Now taxed lower, will lose tax revenue, but is compensated by volume of sales as more people will buy it as they are affordable, the GST changes will increase internal revenue by more volume and hence increase in GDP (claims of 1% growth only by GST changes)

Heavy investment in infra :hysterical:Aao kabhi bharat ki sadkon pe, bridge ke neeche. Maut se khel ke jaaoge.

Lol did you see the state of our infrastructure before 2014? Atleast this govt has built something. Even interior parts of Bihar has good highways now, which was unimaginable earlier. Local City/town roads will always be bad as long as the local administration is corrupt.

Acting as if India was Switzerland earlier.

Most posts here are justifying the inflation despite cheaper oil purchase from Russia by stating that India doesn't have adequate capital and needs hell lot of taxes to fund the the infra and defence.

Whether India doesn't have enough cash or not, we will never know. The statue of Unity in Gujarat raises eyebrows since it costed INR 2900 Cr, and don't get me started on some Indian CAs who find jugaad to claim GST credit on purchases which have no GST component in it.

Bade bhai, pehle to na sadkein thi na bridge. Atankwadi ghatnaen hoti thi...khule aam.

Hyderabad to Nagpur I can now cover in 6 hours, Nagpur to Jabalpur in 4, Jabalpur to Rewa in 4 and Rewa to Varanasi in 3.5 hours.
In 2007-8, it took me 7.5 hours to travel from Varanasi to Rewa, 7 hours from Rewa to Jabalpur and another 8 hours from Jabalpur to Nagpur. BC, this was the situation of Indian roads, no bypass...a normal 2 lane road full of red-soil dust was termed as NH.

Don't remind me of that monstrosity, ugly giant statue in the middle of nowhere, loss maker. Look at how aesthetically Chinese build monuments/statues, and they always fit in with their surroundings, and attract tourists.

Kerala showed the way with the Jatayu statue built at 100 crores, supposedly at the place where Jatayu fell to his death after being injured by Ravana, located inside a national park or bird sanctuary, fits in with the theme perfectly. That place is a money spinner, exactly the purpose of a tourist spot.

India was much better in UPA times. It has become an absolute **** show when it comes to Infra.

The statue of unity sure looks ugly. It would be better had they built an asthetic good looking temple there with yoga/meditation resorts. It would have cost less and brought in more revenue.

Even an Islamic country like Indonesia has used Hindu culture/architecture/yoga to put itself on the Global tourism map. But we can't.

Or better still, invest that money (3000 crores) and time (5 years) to build a state of the art research institute and dedicate it to a legend like Sardar Patel, way better legacy to have. Indian needs R&D more than anything else. China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, heck even Malaysia, are closing the gap with the MITs, Caltechs, Oxbridges in recent times. And we are obsessing over temples, astrology, yoga etc.

Well our lack of R&D is a totally separate problem. It's more to do with our short term greedy business culture.

Don't blame temples for that. They are completely self funded and actually provide huge revenue to the govt. Not a single rupee is spent by the Govt on temples which isn't already recovered multifold.

I'm not that much into Ramayana and Mahabharata, but that Jatayu statue is interesting if it's in a bird sanctuary.

Imagine the curiosity of birds there when they see a super large version of their species just lying there frozen.
