Unpopular opinion : Spare our players of political mudslinging contests on ground

First of all I think the current govt policy of no bilaterals and playing multinational tournaments is absolutely correct. It is quite consistent and avoids us the opportunistic jingoist tag.

Once we decide that we have to play, we must play the game in right spirit and avoid unnecessary politicisation of the game. If you can bowl to Haris Rauf you can't say I won't shake his hand.

I absolutely despise Kohli-Bhajji-Yuvi level of Pappi Jhappi nonsense too because that is another extreme.

Gambhir dedicated 2011 WC SF win against Pakistan to Mumbai attack victims and I had no doubt he is the main planner of all this.

Now looking at that cringe tweet from Modi it looks like he has govt's backing on it.

Completely unnecessary.

If at all the boycott etc has to be done the call should come from the government. Players should spare themselves of this political mudslinging contests.

Proud of our team and players in general how they handled themselves on the field.

how does that logically follow? bowling to someone is as per the rules of the game, rule of the game mandate no such thing as shaking the hands of your opponents.

The guys who probably invented the spirit of the game concept are more than happy to give the same treatment to their enemies. They ban Russia from sporting events under russian flag, they back Ukranians who refuse to shake hands with Russians.

+ especially the person who was handing over the trophy was same guy who was threatening with nuclear attack. I think g@ndu government shouldn’t have allowed this drama at first place by sending team for this tournament. But i am enjoing this humiliation of Naqvi and other poorkis beggar.

Mohsin Naqvi who is in Pak govt and relative of Munir..gave unnecessary statements being the ACC prez...he represented more from Pak propaganda...we cant accept trophy from him..Period!

Players have been professional, they played the matches. They are Indians first so they are allowed to express their views of Pakistan.

Not shaking hands or not taking trophy from hands of person who happens to be a minister of a country which enables terrorists is 100 percent right.

All I hear from those morons iis their whining on how India is mixing politics and sports but no idiot has commented on  why terrorists are being harbored by Pakistani govt and army.

Some people didn’t want India to play in the tournament. If they start boycotting every tournament Pakistan plays then they have to just keep playing bilateral series and IPl.

Pakistan will continue to exist and India has to keep its vigil . There is no one stop or one time solution to this problem.

Unfortunately you can’t choose your neighbors. You have to coexist but make sure they are aware of consequences.

Political mudslinging is perhaps the most lazy phrase to describe the war of civilization vs barbarism.

BCCI should have completely isolated Pakistan from International cricket. If not, atleast they should not participate in any cricketing tie with Pakistani's. Even if the elite compromised, the players should have walked away citing personal reasons. Even if players took part, aam jantaa should have ignored this abomination of a toruney.

Nothing of the above happened.  Unfortunate.

How is the govt stand correct?

Agree players should have been professional.

Because if we have to boycott then we have to fully boycott them. We have to forfeit even an ICC knockout game or Olympics medal match which we can't do.

So playing multinationals is the right way.

This is tough to execute, current players aren't superstars. BCCI can easily dump them like they did to ishan kishan.
I understand, it's easier for likes of SKY who will anyway retire/dumped off in a year or two...but likes of Abhishek, Tilak who are in early 20's and have just started. It can potentially crush their entire childhood dream and years of hard work.

Instruction has to come from the top. Anyway, I hope all this farce and shame will push ICC to avoid Indo-Pak in a common group. If we meet them in semis or finals then that's destiny.

How do you think BCCI is supposed to accomplish that task of isolating Pakistan from international cricket.

Shaking hands post match is a customary obligation. If you are denying a handshake due to a political reason you should not have played in the first place.

Cricketers refusing to shake hands or to share stage with their govt officials will not deter them from inflicting terror attacks on us.

That has to be solved by the govt and security forces. Cricketers don't have to be put in this kind of situations.

Olympics medal games have multiple opponents in same game. It won't be fair on them.

ICC games can be forfeited.

That's dessert, not main course. We can skip it if we want.
We played the game, which was within the rules.

BCCI must' honestly ' and 'clearly' instruct ICC not to put both these sides together in the same group

They got all the hype and buzz they wanted

Why play them in the first place?

Naturally as Indians when we play we want us to win and stoop low at their level to mock them,we shouldn't be remotely make them think we are equals,no they are subhumans, barbaric creatures

Did players say it will solve the problem . I don’t understand how anyone has any issue with it.

I didn’t have any problem with Kohli smiling after loss either in 2017 it was a different situation then.

But you seem to have problem with Kohli smiling after a loss any reason for that dislike.

It might be customary but it definitely isn’t obligation. There is nothing moral or legal about having to shake hands with someone who supports the killing of your fellow citizens.

you either shake hands with ppl who want you killed or drop the cup isn’t logically sound position.

This isn’t uncommon either, the western world which will give you lectures on spirit of the game does the same. This argument that India should either be cucks by shaking hands with terrorists or lose opportunities to win international trophies is a false dilemma.
