Trichromatic Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 His bowling is declining and batting is improving? He can play for another year or so.
cricspirit Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 He can easily play 3 years if he wants. Very fit to last 3 years. Batting is solid and he can get another 1000 runs in 15 odd tests. However wickets are harder. I dont think, it's as much of bowling decline as to getting his conditions. I felt his bowling was still fine last year under the right conditionsm. He is not going to get lot of wickets in SENA. India matches there is competition for wickets now. So India has to bowl second and opposition has to go to 4th innings. This match ( WI 1st innings) he did not get wickets but there was not much for spinners to do and we have 3 of them. Most of his wickets will come in Asia and 3rd/4th innings. Overall I think he will retire with 4500 runs and 360 wickets. The 5K/400 wickets milestone is beyond reach but that does not diminish what he has achieved. Great servant of Indian test cricket. raki05 1
Lord Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 4000 runs seems possible but his bowling is gone off.
AshVin Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 I don't see him getting 70 wickets to reach 400. Realistically, if we consider that he'll play only this WTC cycle, he has 8 Home Tests excluding the current one and 2 Tests in SL i.e 10 Tests to get nearly 70 Wickets. I don't think he'll make the playing XI in NZ. Even if he does, he won't pick more than 4 Wickets in those 2 Tests. So, 10 Tests for 65-70 Wickets. Not happening.
goose Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 why is this forum so keen on ending careers and starting new ones ! cricspirit, Stan AF, Vk1 and 1 other 4

He can play as a complete batter tbh. NZ team might be same team with Pant replacing Sai and Prasidh/Akash replacing Kuldeep. Sundar/Jadeja can play as real bats tbh. Their spin is extra. cricspirit Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 (edited) 10 tests.. 500-600 runs, 25-30 wickets. Not sure how many tests we play over next 2 years. I think he will just target 100 test landmark and retire. Edited October 3, 2025 by cricspirit
neel roy Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Dont forget his fielding. That unbelievable stop in the last day of Oval test to save 1 run when the ball was destined for boundary is stuff of legends. But to me he has remained the tragic hero.. the 2019 wc semi final, the Lords test rearguard batting.. 2 moments I would love to change forever.. raki05, BacktoCricaddict, cricspirit and 4 others 1 1 2 3
Majestic Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 (edited) There are 14 tests left till the WTC 2027 and he is currently at 86 tests. Out of these 14 tests, 2 are vs NZ away and 1 in WTC Final in England. Rest are all in India. I expect him to pick 40 wickets in these 14 tests, score 700 runs. So, overall output will be 370 wickets and 4700 runs in 100 tests. Edited October 4, 2025 by Majestic Master_better and cricspirit 2
cricspirit Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Jadeja is the same age as Virat but his batting has not declined at all. If anything his concentration, shot selection and hunger has increased. In my view a player should not retire just because he reached a certain age. If a player is contributing well, he should keep playing. 2025 is his worst year as a bowler where he has taken 7 wickets in 7 matches. but 5 of those were in England and 1 in Australia. During 2024 he took 48 wickets in 12 tests. I agree with Majestic. 35-40 wickets to finish around 370 wickets. Milestones aside, Job well done to contribute to Indian dominance at home with the ball. Vital runs down the order most of the time. Ashwin and Jadeja have been a fantastic combo for India during the last 15 years. Both legends. Master_better, BacktoCricaddict, raki05 and 1 other 1 1 2

If Kohli had batted in the lower order instead of being a top order mainstay, even he would have been less stressed, he would be fresher, thereby improving his concentration power. ;-)

I am comparing Virat with his own self. I am comparing their progress vs AGE. Virat started the decline at 32 which is too early. Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and group did not decline at that stage. few decades ago 33 was considered peak power for a batter. Usually batters with start decline after 35. Jadeja is improving against his own self, his batting position even though getting older. Virat being same age has retired. Edited October 4, 2025 by cricspirit New guy 1

But now that we are thinking seriously, I think it is valid to compare why Jadeja has bloomed as a batsman at his age, but Kohli declined rapidly. They are both physically fit, so that is not the issue. But Kohli didn't ever overcome the temptation to go on off-stump fishing expeditions (maybe a side-effect of the T20 game), and that did him in. cricspirit 1
bsriharsha Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Always thought jadeja was a better batsman than a bowler. No disrespect to his bowling skills. But jadeja in domestic cricket was a beast as a batsman who couldn't translate his ability to the international stage for a long time. BacktoCricaddict and tweaker 2
Majestic Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 I think he will need to touch 105 test mark to get to 5000 test runs and 400 test wickets. Next 14 tests - 11 in Asia, 3 outside Asia After that, we don’t know the schedule. He should be around 380 wickets and 4800 runs at 100 test matches mark. Stan AF 1
Majestic Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Since 2018, Jadeja has played 51 tests. Bat Avg - 44, 6 100s Bowl Avg - 26, 6 5-fers Home matches - 25 Away matches - 26( including 2 WTC Finals) Vk1 1
