I recall successful ODI tour of SA in 2018 where India won 5-1 playing both Kuldeep & Chahal, maybe Bishnoi can be tried alongside Kuldeep. I am not sure whether Chahal is going to be picked again. Varun could be a back up for Kuldeep.

All rounder slots are not convincing at the moment in SA/AUS conditions.

After 2023 WC India will not play with 4 bowlers.

Will do the 5 + 3 + 3 used in T20 WC and CT (T20 WC was actually 4 + 4 + 3 if you consider Dube as an AR)

Even 2023 WC they started with 5 + 3 + 3 with Shardul, Pandya, Jadeja

That's 4 bowlers plus Pandya and Axar/Parag. Even NKR/ Tilak can bowl

7 + 4 Combination: This is an Australian model though one can aruge that Cummins is damn good at No.8 as a batsman. But the philosphy is simple- play your top 7 batsman where few can cover the 5th bowling quota and play your best 4 bowlers. India tried this in absense of Pandya but in reality Jadeja at No. 7 was not a reliable batter. To follow this philosphy currently, I will play this Indian team

Jaiswal
Gill

Tilak ( can bowl)
Iyer
Rahul

Pandya ( can bowl)
Rinku ( proper bat at No. 7 to give safety )
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj or Arashdeep
Prasidh or Rana

6 + 2 + 3 Combination: This is a perfect model considering the current talent. But lack of genuine 3rd fast bowler is real weakness in South African condition. But the balance is good. Batting till 8 and 6 bowling options.

Jaiswal
Gill

Tilak
Iyer
Rahul

Rinku

Pandya (can bowl)

Axar (can bowl)
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj

5 + 3 + 3 Combination: This is the model Gambhir is playing with currently and without Pandya as one of the three allrounders, this startgey is falling flat. Assuming Pandya is fit, this can also work but then fitting Kuldeep is a problem.

Jaiswal
Gill

Tilak
Iyer
Rahul

Pandya (can bowl)
Nitish  (can bowl)

Axar ( can bowl)
Rana
Bumrah
Siraj

Indian management like batting till 8. If Harshit's batting develops maybe.

Ideally Harshit and Arshdeep combined can give you the batting of an AR so depends on how their batting is.

Same thing with Aus. Cummins and Starc individually are inferior batsmen to ARs but together give you the batting of an AR.

7+4 works for Aussies cause Cummins and Starc combined give you the batting output of a genuine allrounder. We had that with Zaheer and Harbhajan.

If Arshdeep's and Rana's batting develops can play this. Siraj, Bumrah, Prasidh are pure tailenders.

India has decent chunk of ODIs now

3 vs SA at home

3 vs NZ at home

3 vs Afg at home

3 vs Eng away

3 vs WI at home

3 vs Bang away

3 vs NZ away

3 vs SL at home

Asia Cup in prolly Bangladesh

Can be few more before the WC as well. Only 6 in SENA though. Should try and arrange something with SA before the WC. Aussies played a short 3 match series which they lost 1-2 before the WC.

2017 CT finals , no show.

2019 semi final again no show

2023 semfinal again no show

2023 never could impose himself even after getting a gift wicket.

These are just 50 over no shows. There is whole list of noshows in other formats as well. We will revisit them later. He will be 2 years older and injury prone and rarely shows up in big spots for India.

This genius never shows up in big spots but blame goes to others.

Should India move on from him .
