I have seen India struggle against Derek Underwood and Grieg struggle against Abdul Qadir and Iqbal Qasim, struggle against Saqlain and Mushtaq. Trick is to use 2 or more spinners in India. Feed to the Indians what they feed to others. Don't have Warne and Kasprowicz bowling. Have Panesar and Swann bowling. Don't come here with only Nathan Lyon. Bring Lyon and a couple more spinners like Murphy or Kuhneman or whatever his name is. Play Santner and the other 2 Kiwi spinners. Etc. Heck even Gambhir, Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly lost a test and drew home series 1-1 to Pak with a spin bowling attack of Kaneria and Shahid Afridi in 2005. 2005 series last day pitch was a minefield. But there was one guy who made that look like flat road. Sehwag. But Gauti ran him out lol.

I dunno - looking back Pak score 261/2 on day 4 off of 50 overs with Afridi slamming 58 off 34 balls and Younis Khan 84 not out off 98 balls and Inzamam 31 not out off 32 balls. Then the pitch next day became a minefield? I don't think so - our batsmen basically laid down and could not bat. Sehwag was like Afridi/Younis/Inzamam basically....

Ball was keeping low and turning big. It was skidding on for all spinners. As long as VIru was batting they couldn't land where they wanted.

Chamara Silva and the other guy played Harbhajan easily ..... Then we collapsed against Murali and Jayasuriya when it was our turn to bat. putrevus and Gollum 2

It got progressive worse. But India had a chance to draw that test. They just had to bat extra overs. Besides Younis khan/Afridi swept the crap out of Kumble. Kumble had no proper leg spin.. Every ball was eitehr coming in or barely left the batsmen. So they could easily dominate us. Sehwag's technique was superior to technique of our other batsmen in that match.

I remember that test very well. In mid 2000s we had a habit or choking in 4th innings. Same happened against Udal in Mumbai next year. Then 2008 Sydney where last 4 couldn't play out 1 over...Clarke took 3 wickets in one over to win them the test.
Gollum Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 Sachin went into stonewalling mode for no reason. Played 100 balls and scored 15 runs, then Sami took him out. That Pak bowling was not even Ranji level...pacers Sami and Razzaq (who was bowling 115 kph), spinners Kaneria, Arshad Khan and Afridi. We OTOH had the famous Fab 5 and swatantra senani Gautam Gambhir. Next season in RSA we choked the decider test again, because of pointless stonewalling by Sachin and Dravid against Paul Harris in 3rd innings when we were in firm control of the match. I know @Laaloo will hate this post but facts are facts. As a Sachin fan myself, those two knocks are impossible to justify. AKane and Laaloo 1 1

He is usually our 4th innings specialist. Ball was sliding down the leg. But given leg before. Watch the ball that castled Ganguly. Near unplayable. Edited November 19, 2025 by vvvslaxman

There is a reason why I rate Fab 5 Indian batting unit behind 2000s Aus and RSA. Individually, our guys were great, but jelly ike when under the pump. They collapsed against Zimbabwe FGS, and a horrendous 4th innings record everywhere. rollingstoned, AKane and putrevus 3
