It's hilarious how so many accounts are getting exposed. 

Couple of things X still needs to do, remove continent/region option, may be keep this option only for high risk countries like China, Iran. North Korea. Second, the delay the location update when people are traveling to protect privacy.

 

This guy sheikhalfaris btw is an Indian pretending to be an Emirati hate posting against India, Hindus, Jews. His account has been withheld in India.

 

Anyone checked this guy’s location @Sheikhalfaris ?

The internet will always be like this till they authenticate users based on UID like Aadhar etc.

 

Now users will use VPN at the time of account creation which will by default set the country to the VPN is set to.

The big problem with social media is the anonymity it provides to the users. 

 

Get rid of that anonymity and 99% of the hate speech will come down.

you can chose your country or the region you are from, Indians online are vehmently opposed to using South Asian to refer to themselves. So if an account is anti Indian & is from South Asia they are by default P@ki or BD.

Your country is India, region is south asia based on IP tracking only.

 

Now you have a choice to display on your profile either the country or the region. That is my understanding of the post you quoted.

no I think it is based on IP you are from, but you have an option to reveal the country or just the region. The primary driver for x is to kind of expose bots/trolls to western audience, they could care less if those bots/trolls are from India or Pakistan.

 

Also for some high profile individuals its a privacy issue to reveal the country they are in, that could also be a reason why they offered the option.
