Btw, the film’s basic idea appears to be borrowed from The Dirty Dozen (1967), which was later implemented in Karma (1986).

Dhurandhar takes that idea to put in a gangster-crime film container while weaving in true terrorism events and general India-Pakistan dynamics.

Part 2 of Dhurandhar is coming in March-April 2026 if I recall correctly.

In the Manchurian Candidate (1962), an American soldier is made a war hero for the Americans by the Chinese so he can rise in politics to eventually become the US President. The Part 2 of Dhurandhar  could touch upon this concept, while also giving the backstory of Ranveer’s character (most likely based on a Dirty Dozen type character).

Yes, nothing can be corroborated apart from general themes such as infiltration (which happens universally).

I doubt if Akshay Khanna’s character equivalent was killed due to an Indian agent’s direct influence. Or that a daughter of an influential Pakistani politician fell in love with him.  Also him claiming to be a Balcoh without being traced to Balochistan even after the Baloch gang visit there is far fetched. The story has big holes. Those points make it a “pure” fiction.

The film itself does not claim to be real as it says in its opening disclaimer itself but tries to make people believe that it could be real by incorporating true events. And many people want such concepts to be true so they view them as true. It is psychological in a way.

PS I would recommend watching it as a gangster-crime film which weaves in real terrorism events and general India-Pakistan dynamics.

Second video tells how he walked out. There is nothing positive about terror and Gangs. But some expectations on saving assets exists.

it is too long, haha! … It appears to be talking about Rehman Dakoit and his death? Yeah, he was killed by SP Aslam or whatever the name was, who was in turn blown apart by a Baloch group, iirc.

What would have made Pak scenes more authentic are 70 cc bikes, those khatara bikes best symbolize that country. Missed seeing them @Lone Wolf

National vehicle of Bhikaristan :hysterical:

and the streets shown were damn too good that Ranveer was driving like crazy... Only things that were not believable:phehe:

I won't be surprised if an Indian film-maker comes up with a film on Dawood Ibhrim where he becomes an Indian intelligence operative to infiltrate Pakistan ... Or a Pakistani film-maker claiming Dawood to be a Pakistani who went to India (through Nepal or Bangladesh border) to rule the underworld and Bollywood, the cultural influencer in India, and carry out ISI operations

Unlike Mumbai we don’t know Karachi. Unless u know actual story, of Lyari, You can’t comment on Dhurandhar characters.

There is nothing insightful to know. Lyari is a third class area in a third class country with third class figures. Some characters being based on real life figures does not equate to all characters being based on real life, when the film-maker chose to call his work a fiction based on true events. True events could be act of terrorisms, death of some characters based on real life, and so on.

I think you could have fallen into the trap of thinking that since characters X and Y are based on real life figures, so is character Z. In the Great Dictator (1940), Charlie Chaplin Hynkel is based on Hitler, but that does not make the Jewish Barber, his doppelgänger, real.

PS While Sanyal, the Dakoit brothers, the politician, and SP characters are based on real characters, the Ranveer's character Mazari/Rangi is fictional. Also having characters based on real people does not mean that everything they did in film was what they actually did.

What Dhurandar employs is a clever way of story telling, mixing fiction with characters based on real people and fictional story elements weaved with true events. From a non-fictional point of view, the story has huge holes. From a fictional or even semi-fictional point of view, the story incorporates cinematic conveniences.

The film should be enjoyed for what it is - a fiction utilizing true events and real characters cleverly;  and not turned into what it is not - a non fictional account. Though the reminder of terrorist events in India is moving, it more of a gangster-crime film.

PPS

In a way, Dhurandar is like Lord of War (2006), a fictional story inspired by arm dealers such as Viktor Bout and his clients:
