Very rarely heard this in india but I am sure it exists. Forget the moral aspect, I am not able to get my head across the fact that biological implications are not conveyed. Not sure where this comes from. Do we have other communities in India who do this stupidity? What is the incentive?

Yep ..as a south Indian Brahmin, I can say that marriage on maternal side is permitted due to difference in gothra and not on paternal side.
