Clear selection bias against Rinku Singh! Badoni selected ahead of Rinku

This has gone beyond a joke by this time! With Sundar injured, Badoni has been called up to replace Sundar instead of Rinku who's multiple levels above Badoni...

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/india-vs-nz-washington-sundar-out-of-odi-series-against-new-zealand-with-rib-injury-1519226

Here's Badoni's List A stats: 693 runs at an average of 36 and a SR of 93.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/ayush-badoni-1151270

And here're Rinku's List A stats: 2418 runs at an average of 52.5 with a SR of 101! Plus he has a similar bowling average to Badoni of 29 in List A!

https://www.espncricinfo.com/cricketers/rinku-singh-723105

And yet Badoni is selected coz he's from Delhi while Rinku is not from an "affluent" or a "major" cricket center. We've seen this play out multiple times that there're certain players who're always swimming upstream and no matter what they do, they're never given chances. Rinku and Jaiswal are the main players and Sarfaraz is another one who're always sidelined. And then you've folks like KL Rahul who're backed for years without performances or given a rope which extends half a decade.

Why this discrimination and clear bias against Rinku? Rinku is the ideal batter to come in at 5, 6 or 7 which Sundar was supposed to bat in, and is clearly a much superior batter than either Sundar and Badoni and yet we see likes of SKY, Sundar, Badoni get selected while Rinku is continually ignored. If Rinku, Jaiswal and Sarfaraz don't find a godfather soon, they may as well focus entirely on IPL. Jaiswal needs to be extra careful coz one bad Test series and Agarkar will kick him out of Tests as well just like Rinku & Jaiswal were inexplicably sidelined from T20s despite having amazing stats in T20Is.

So what are the likes of Rinku and Jaiswal need to do to get into the team across formats? When you see likes of SKY and Badoni get into ODIs while averaging in 30s & early 40s while Rinku is averaging 51, or likes of Gill get into T20Is while Jaiswal has probably one of the best stats in T20I as opener, or when someone like Patidar gets into Tests with an average of early 40s while Rinku can't even get a sniff despite averaging close to 60 in FC! Rinku's one of the very few all-format batters we have alongside Jaiswal and yet can't break into any format coz he and Jaiswal clearly don't belong to the "right" group.

Not sure if the selection of badhoni is bias towards rinku, think its more to save the spot for Sundar.

There are many better option than badhoni, rinku can fit right in, there are several mo/lower mo batters from domestic or ipl those who can be tried.

better bowling allrounder option can be vipraj, other part-time off-spin option could have been shahruk, Naman dhir, dube, V.iyer, Samran (krntk).

they are just making random selection so that already picked player's is not challenged.

They did same when they brought Shebaz for axar

Ideally it was Naman Dhir vs Badoni for that role once Parag is unfit.

Hitting ability of Dhir is better but GG might be biased and picked Badoni coz of LSG connection

Naman should have been better choice, looks like they are in no mood to build the side for next wc in SA.

And making random selections at this point. Though badhoni has been good in domestic but do not think he in intnl. quality and specially if the wc is in SA.

Hasn't played that many games in VHT this season

Had good SMAT and Duleep trophy,Ranjish(double 100s)may have propelled his case+bowls offspin

But they are not List A tournaments.

that guy has more days injured than playing days

Rohit was never a fitness freak. But he was always available for playing cricket in the early part of his career.  Injuries are more common these days. Look at Gill . He is picking up variety fo injuries. Pant is another guy. Pandya permanently injured guy. Iyer is forgivable as it was a serious injury.

Nitish reddy will play at the spot of Sundar anyway

Nitish reddy is having a decent season. But given the conditions are Indian conditions spinning all rounder is likely to be preferred. Sindhu is an exciting option. Not sure why india is not trying youngsters.

Kris Srikkanth blames Gautam Gambhir for preferential treatment in Ayush Badoni’s call-up

Srikkanth expressed his doubt about the player’s ability to change the course of the game. He questioned whether the player could step in at number six and play aggressive shots.

Srikkanth stated that the selection criteria seemed unclear. “For some players, the expectation is to score runs. But for others, they get picked even without performing,” he said, voicing his concerns about the mixed signals this sends to domestic players who are waiting for their chance.

Srikkanth expressed his doubt about the player’s ability to change the course of the game. He questioned whether the player could step in at number six and play aggressive shots, particularly hitting sixes, suggesting that he couldn’t understand the rationale behind such a selection.

“He’s not the type of player who can turn the game in your favour. Can he come in at number six and hit sixes? I just don’t get it. What rubbish is this? How is he even considered a bowling all-rounder?” he said.

Srikkanth speculated that Badoni’s inclusion in the team was likely due to his time at LSG, where Gautam Gambhir was the mentor. He expressed that he could not think of any other reason for the selection. “He played for LSG and had a mentor there, which is probably why he’s in the team now,” he added.

Glad someone calls out this bizzarre.selection. we have been discussing about team selection in ICF. Not a singe  person had badoni as their choice.

(1) Does Srikkanth have any comments on the fact that Washington Sundar is himself a bizarre ODI #6 selection?

(2) This kind of selection bias is akin to what happens in the corporate world. Some guy gets hired as a manager, and next thing you know, all his mates/mentees are in his team under the guise of "fit" "working well together." Due process and professional hiring protocols be damned.
