rollingstoned Posted January 13 Posted January 13 ‘Blatant favouritism’ - Shubman Gill & Co face severe backlash after Arshdeep Singh warms bench during IND vs NZ 1st ODI The exclusion of Arshdeep Singh didn't go well with the fans and experts in the first ODI against New Zealand. Instead, India went with the likes of Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj. Arshdeep Singh has been overlooked in the first ODI against New Zealand. (AFP) The Indian team management faced severe backlash on Sunday after the Men in Blue benched Arshdeep Singh in the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA stadium in Vadodara. The decision to bench Arshdeep not only took the experts by surprise, but it also drew sharp reactions online. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj led the Indian pace bowling attack, along Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana in the playing XI. The criticism stemmed after Arshdeep didn't find a place despite being most economical in the ODI series against South Africa. When asked about the combination, captain Shubman Gill ruled it out as “trying different combinations” before the 2027 World Cup. “We will bowl first. Honestly, try different kinds of combinations, you know, see what combination suits us the best for different conditions, obviously when we play in India,” Gill told toss presenter Ravi Shastri. However, Gill's words didn't satisfy the fans. “They dropped Arshdeep Singh who was the most economical bowler for India in the last ODI series but run-machine Prasidh Krishna is still in the Playing 11. This is blatant favouritism!!!” said one user on X. “So you are telling me we are going with Prasidh Krishna instead of Arshdeep Singh. Isn't it obvious favouritism,” said another. “From Harshit to Prasidh: The Ongoing Snub of Arshdeep Singh - It feels like not selecting Arshdeep in the team has simply become a hobby for this team management,” another user wrote on X. "Prasidh Krishna, who is an inconsistent performer and a run-leaking machine, is getting chances over Arshdeep. Sometimes Harshit plays in Arshdeep's place, sometimes Prasidh. Why does no one question these nonsensical tactics of the team management?" the post further read. Arshdeep Singh's performances in ODIs The criticism around Krishna and Rana came after the duo were behind Arshdeep in terms of economy in the ODI series against South Africa. The left-arm seamer was India's most consistent performer against the Proteas with five wickets in three games at an economy of 5.50. In comparison, Rana leaked runs at an economy of 6.39, picking up four wickets. Krishna had the worst economy - 7.80 - in the three ODIs against South Africa. Besides the three-man pace attack, India have also gone with three spinners - Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
Gollum Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Though I support Arshdeep in general, won't read too much into this series. Main aim here must be that none of our players gets injured or fatigued so close to T20 WC.
tapandrun Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) Selecting Arsh is not good idea if they are looking at him as longterm but if they are just giving him games to build up strength and stamina then its okay. He is no special , but run of the mill Odi bowler and loses steam after 1st spell in odis. Its better he concentrate in t20is. But if he is benching then he xould have played smat for pjb Edited January 13 by tapandrun express bowling 1
Lone Wolf Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) ICT fans collective IQ in a nutshell. Both Harshit and Prasidh bowled pretty well in last game. Arshdeep is pretty substandard in his second and final spell (death). His new ball bowling is only area where he Trumps these two. Let him focus on T20 WC rather than these low intensity bilateral Edited January 13 by Lone Wolf rollingstoned, jf1gp_1, express bowling and 1 other 4

Prabhdeep Singh Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I guess it makes sense if saving him for T20 WC tapandrun 1
Nikhil_cric Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Some really dumb fans/paid accounts on X who want Rana dropped for Arshdeep in ODI's. Simply can't be taken seriously express bowling, rollingstoned and tapandrun 1 2

vvvslaxman Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Arshdeep has not mastered the ODi bowling craft yet. Once Siraj takes a break he can walk in. ODI bowling requires consistency not just variations. Harshit Rana is doing the role that Chetan sharma used to do although Chetan was more than a decent bat.

Current attack for what it's worth is massive upgrade on that I have my reservations with PK as well. I'd rather have Gurnoor Brar and Ashok Sharma being tried in ODIs over him. Selectors have been very rigid not picking inform players for key spots rollingstoned and express bowling 2
tapandrun Posted January 13 Posted January 13 This is exactly what Ind fans/pr does they confuses formats... Arash is good in T20s not so in Odis, he kind of loses gas after 1st spell. express bowling 1

If Arshdeep wants to become a good all phase ODI bowler he should play more first class games where he bowls a lot of overs not just 4 or 10. Train your muscles to repeat stuffs. In T20 you don't have to repeat things. You can bowl 24 diffeent slower balls as one mahaahn named Harshal patel said once tapandrun 1
