ODIs need the same mindset change as T20s got. All we need is for 7-8 bats to score between 25-65 with a SR of 125-150. No centuries, anchoring, settling in, batting deep etc. Stan AF, Tillu and nevada 1 2
tapandrun Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Out of box Ques ::-- Can ind Odi wc side slot in Abhishek in place of Axar. Abhishek can be used as a finisher, he has exp. playing in mo and lower mo in domestics. but he is no where near the bowler Axar is, and Abhishek's fielding for 50 overs can cause the match.
Frustrated Posted March 18 Posted March 18 ODI tournaments these days are very rare. Tri-series of 1990s don't happen anymore. Only a few bilaterals here and there. Not sure if any cricket board would bother to invest too much time & money into this format, which is on the verge of getting extinct. nevada 1
jf1gp_1 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Regular basis needs to be defined. 4 out of 10 innings ? No we are not there yet. We aren't even at 300 for now.
Vk1 Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Unlike 2003 WC which was played during Feb-Mar this one is scheduled for Oct-Nov. Fresh pitches might reduce the scoring rate. Reminds me of 2022 wc in Aus.. began similarly early season and helped pacers and teams struggled to get to 160-170

Also generally in ODIs depth is not going ot be the same. You can't use a part timer to finish 5th bowling overs

That's why teams try to go above par. Edited March 18 by Vk1

We should try to build a solid bench strength rather than plan the team around a couple of individuals. Two of the biggest contributors to the T20 WC win came out of syllabus. Neither was in the plans just 2-3 months ago. Just pick the best possible squad when the WC happens, regardless of name and past reputation. And honestly, the team should be liberated from "will this be xyz's dream come true this time?", "can xyz score x number of milestones in this tournament" type of themes. Who doesn't want a fairy tale end to their career, but some players have stayed on past their sell by date, blind to the fact that a young, deserving player is rotting on the bench for years.
