Arguably the best spinner in India, ahead of Suthar (who I like and should be in test squad) in white ball . He's more suited to coming in at 8/9 than Suthar too. With the impact player rule his batting shouldn't make a difference anyway

Looks like someone doesn't like him

Brar and Sai Kishore are 2 legit spinners. Both not getting opportunities over some darters and bits and pieces spinners

both can not bat, A SLA who can not bat is hard to slot them into playing 11. Such bowlers will struggle in any IPL to make to playing 11 consistently

As for GT and kishore, think between kishore and suthar, suthar may be better batter which is why he is in the side, they need to extend their batting line-up as they do not have proper t20 batters so which ever bowler can bat makes to the side . Their batting is based on v.thin margins so have to make a combination that works

Both can bat. Brar can certainly hit better than Chahal

Suthar is not great T20 bat too

Chahal is a legspinner, there are not many (do not think there even 1 leg-spinner in Ind who can bat) leg-spinners who can bat so no competition.

Suthar has 1 ton and 6 fiftes in FC may be that's why he is preferred

Sai can bat , you're right Manav may be better but Sai isn't a mug. Sai is a much better white ball bowler I think, and with the impact player rule these marginal batting differences shouldn't come into it

Yes sai has improved on his batting, he has one 80 runs innings this smat, but still do not think he canbat vs IPL level bowlers. Have not seen suthar much so can not say alot about him.

Not sure if sai played all the games for his domestic side in smat. GT has multiple SLA --Sai, Suthar and Sindhu. A SLA who can not bat wont find a place in any side these days, there are just too many SLA choices.

Impact player rule has helped players who are good in one discipline as they do not have to sit out for fake allrounders for team-sheet to look balanced.

This is ipl and its sai's 4th season and he has not been able to cement his position in Ind core that this can happen, team will pick such players yr on yr but wont get much game time. In 1st few yr. if team does not look at some player as part of the core then they just sit-out.

If suthar is unable to do so he will be sitting out too.

I would even ask why Gurnoor Brar has not been given even a single game by GT? Surely he could have been tried.

You don't select bowers on their batting ability.

That comes into the picture only if bowling ability is roughly equal. In reality Sai Kishore is way ahead.

This is like selecting Thakur over Bumrah

This is white-ball cricket, everything is counted. That is called finding the balance in the side . This is not test where you put your best 6 best batter and 4 best bowlers and thats does.

Bhumrah/Starc..etc is point of diff players who can win the games, but if they were not point of diff players then other skills are needed. If there were 2-3 bhumrah then one who can bat would have been preferred.

between suthar and sai , its not bhumrah vs thakur comparison, its more like deshpandey vs thakur or chahar kind of competition , the gulf is not that big

This is the same reason OS leg-spinners or spinners are selected if selected do not go for v.high value. They are not point of diff, and balance of team matters.

He will likely get his chance sooner or later. Still there are 4 games to go and potentially more games if the Wolves make it to playoff.

Nah gulf in bowling is quite big. Sai has more skills, is tall so can use bounce. Has won them games in the past.

Suthar's batting will be required in maybe 1 in 10 games at best. You don't sacrifice bowling quality for that

For flexible slots in the line up, it would depend upon current form and how a player is shaping up, along with team dynamics.

If Glen Philips, SRK, and Tewatia had done well, Sai K would have likely been preferred over Suthar, who could have impressed in nets.

Suthar does not look confident this season so Sai K may get a look in.

A good thing in cricket is to not follow any rule too seriously - go with the flow!

This stockpile of SLA has to be tactical, to ensure other teams dont get a good Indian SLA

Sai was good in last years IPL , second most wickets for GT after Prasidh

Do not think it tactical , team target wrist or mystery-spinners there are multiple las in domestic which are not even getting picked
