When these stories started to come out, I said to myself (and anyone who would listen) that these are just aberrations. That every community has such people. Then came the story about the dancing in a War Memorial. Throwing junk in movie theatres in multiple places. And I wonder now - Should I be rethinking that opinion? Do people from India (incl NRIs) do more of this crap than others? Or do I hear about it more because I hang out on a msg board where we talk mostly about India and Indians? EnterTheVoid 1
Vancouver Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Last time I flew to India, there was a lady who refused to discipline her child. She was lucky it wasn't a US airline, to say the least. A few days ago in Vancouver, I saw another absolute bonkers Indian lady. She made her husband film her over and over doing 10+ retakes as their kid watched while blocking the pedestrian walkway. Completely unaware of the inconvenience they were causing, everyone around them stood there wondering when they'd finally move. I've noticed this dynamic more than a few times with some Indian families, the wife is the one creating a scene while the husband just stands there quietly, almost afraid to say anything. Even in the OP's link, it's the woman pointing fingers while the husband hangs back.

Not just on planes. When we were traveling in India, it happened everywhere - restaurants, lodge balcony etc. You'd go and sit on the balcony in front of your lodge room door with a cup of coffee for some peace and quiet, and neighboring room unkal comes out with his phone blaring news or whatsapp videos :-). One of the top areas of absence of civic sense in my view!! Why just aeroplane, yahan to phir bhi lihaj kar lete hain thoda bahut. Be it park benches, wait areas, railways, buses, cabs, neighbours, it happens everywhere.

Dealing with their own in commerce and retail. Pretty inward looking. And most of them marry with in their community. As a result he lacks that cross cultural sensitivity. When compared to a person like Punjabi or a Telugu. Hence he feels every place is extended gujju land.

A section of telugu youth loose their marbles and brayn when comes to hero worship and films. Result is you see this stoopid behaviour. And that dancing in war memorial, I am sure that lady pushed her man to do that cringy act.

Once they gain decent size of subscribers, then in their mind, they're no less than celebs and deserve red carpet welcome everywhere. Hence, when someone wake them to the reality, the fragile glass ego of the influencer comes down crashing, leading to escalation. Secondly, with the ease of tourist visa and the costly affair of Indian tourism, more and more folks are now travelling outside. As they get the hotels, flights at a cheaper cost...they stop valuing the same. Plus we have the mentality of treating service as slavery. We treat the waiters and guards as our personal slaves, that's not the case everywhere. Third part of our problem where we actually don't know how to behave with different cultures. Bargaining (or arguing) for few bucks is fine in India, but not every country across the world likes that. Similarly, places across the world are sacred and their sanctity needs to be maintained, but as in India, no one teaches them how to maintain the decorum in a sacred place, they carry the same behaviour outside. diga 1

Now with rise in numbers of residents, the rotten apples feel that they can get away by hiding behind those who look like them. As they say, the crowd don't have a face. diga 1
