FIFA WC 2026

This referee will surely be banned from future matches. The tackling and fouls were worse than that 2006 WC infamous "Battle of Nuremberg" match between Portugual vs Netherlands. Atleast there, both the teams were shown total 16 yellow cards. Some of the tackles, intentional shoulder push, scuffing the penalty spot, hitting on ankle were worthy of red cards yesterday. Absolutely disgraceful and loser mentality from Paraguay.

It looks like FIFA

wanted Paraguay to proceed to QFs at the expense of France.

Fifa seems to be backing argentina...

In the NFL there have been repeated cases of fire alarms pulled in hotel where the opposite teams are staying so they have to get up and out of the hotel in middle of nights.

It happens.

I guess solution can be make both teams stay in same hotel.

I think Paraguay players are smart operators, playing in the grey zone (mastered their style of playing - ugly but effective), while French players made it relatively more obvious.

France was awarded penalty when it found difficult to break through the defence so all is well that ends well!

Nah. South American football is tough but this was nothing tough, it was beyond rough. French keeper had his first save in 89th minute, so there wasn't anything effective about their football. They wanted to to drag it till P-shootouts. They were smashing French players who hadn't even ball with them. Referee definitely was inexperienced idiot who helped Paraguay, gave Barcola and Olise Yellow which might hurt them next game, if they get yellow next time- No SF for both.  Even Penalty was awarded after VAR check which was obvious even on naked eye that there was clear contact and it was Penalty. It was proper Haramball by Paraguay.

In terms of fouls, both teams were around 12. For most of the fouls, PAR was relatively subtle. While French players lost their cool on a few occasions.

I agree that PAR should have been dealt with more strictly. But the point is the team knows how to play in the grey zone.
