Sundar dropped in his best format. Typical GG

Needed another batsman. 4 seamers for those conditions seems too much

Sundar is injured I think. The one he picked up in 2nd ODI in Eng.

Agree, too many pacers for a 2 test series. needed an additional middle order batsman.

They have 8 options for top 6.

It's better to keep both Gurnoor and Prasidh in the squad and keep them involved. They will learn from Bumrah. Plus hope to see Gurnoor actually play.

Not enough specialists. Jurel and Pant are keepers (even KL for that matter sometimes dons gloves in tests), Jaddu is AR.

Gill, Jaiswal, Padikkal, Sai are the only specialist batsmen, and I don't rate 2 of them.

Honestly padikkal and sai not good enough for international but selectors and management pick them so we have to adjust our expectations not picking sarfaraz a big bundler he can destroy sl spinners

Pant averages 43.4 as a batsman after 50 tests. Arguably our most clutch test batter ever.

Rahul is a pure batter at test level. Dravid kept in ODIs too. Did it make him a non-specialist batter !  You can question his consistency though. That's another issue.

Jurel averages 55 in FC cricket. Has a highest of 249 showing he can play long innings too. He is being groomed as a No.6 batter. Pant is the one who ususlly keeps.

Personally, I would have picked all 3 if I were a selector.

I would not have picked specialist Padikkal though.

Can't wait for Asian Games bro...  Very excited

Hockey World Cup is going to be fire.  Anyone can beat anyone among top 6/7 sides on a given day

Sundar is injured.  Batting stocks seen decent for a short 2 match series.

They clearly picked the guys who are in the loop only

Last year I did not like Sudarshan either.

But he has improved this year. Wants to bat on and on. Improved his stroke play against pace too, especially his pull shots.

Padikkal is not good enough technically.

I am a big supporter of Pant. Also rate Jurel.

My point is they aren't looking to develop specialist batsmen. They are also placing bets on the wrong horses like Sai, Padikkal.

In the T20 era it is a pretty challenging task to develop high quality specialist test batsmen.

Anyone with special batting talent wants to tonk every ball. And often ignores footwork, defense and innings building.

Those that are left, and look like proper FC batters in domestic cricket, often lack the ability to play or hit genuine pace or even swing. They lack that special something.

We are quite lucky to find Gill snd Jaiswal together in this era.

My guess is that Sudarshan and Jurel are being groomed because both can build an innings, have decent techniques and can play genuine pace.

Apart from Sarfraz, I can't really find any FC batter who is being ignored despite having test quality batsman attributes.
