Is Ollie Robinson unplayable in England?

Even if you leave the current ineptitude of Pakistani batters in handling any kind of bowling, Robinson's record in Test cricket is astonishing. Overall average below 20, average in England is 15 and he also has a decent record in Australia and Pakistan. What's more - he is also so accurate and gives hardly any runs away. He is almost like a Glen McGrath of England.

Wobble seam from high release point is a problem right now fr all batters, no one figured out the method to play it.

Robinson/boland have been v.effective.  Lets see how they do in SA.

Pak batting is not a good litmus test.

Duke vs kookaburra. He can still do damage with new ball. They will roll out flat wickets given that ENgland does have weapon in their armory. SA is very careful about offering specific pitches to specific teams.

He uses his height very well.He has done very well away from England too. His avg in Australia is 25 which is very good and he should have been in the team for last Ashes. He was the reason why they won in Pakistan also.

He is a fiesty character  and he uses wobble seam very well and also can swing the ball.

+ pinpoint accuracy

And a pretty decent lower order batsman too.

England, SA and Australia emphasize so much on bowlers having some batting abilities that is severely lacking in India. Compare Cummins, Starc, Archer, Robinson, Atkinson batting to Siraj, Prasidh, Bumrah.

They teach their best bowlers to bat decently.

We pick substandard bowlers with slightly better batting ability when this question is raised. Which is why I feel uncomfortable when this question is raised.

The lower order batting has been cause between many wins converted to losses.

Shami , Bumrah to be fair won Oval test with their bat. Akashdeep too played couple of knocks but overall India once five wickets are down end is near.

it is more evident in White ball cricket. World Cup finals is prime example our batting end at number 4.

But bowlers have to selected based on their bowling abilities not their batting.

To some extent, yes. Bowlers who have exceptional bowling abilities should absolutely be considered on the basis of their bowling. Bumrah is a prime example. Even with bat, he has improved a bit in the last few years. But very often our bowlers start thinking that batting is optional and don't even make an effort to improve. Examples are Siraj, Prasidh, Chahal. When these bowlers get so many chances in the team, they must use the team resources to improve their batting - they have everything at their finger tips: coaching staff, practice nets and bowlers and what not. Not improving their technique shows a lack of will.

f you are picking 5 bowlers for a Test match, at least two of them should be able to bat decently. You cannot have a tail starting at number 7. In India, it seems like an unwriten rule these days that spin bowlers must be able to bat, while fast bowlers need not. That should be changed. Yes, fast bowlers should be picked primarily on their bowling abilities, but they should give time and focus to improve their batting as well.

India despite in such dominating position at headingley thanks to 6 for 59 and 7 for 41 collapse lost the unlosable test. They corrected it in the next test by bringing Sundar in. Since then we lost one test even that was extremely close. won 2 tests.

And they are called out for it. Batsmen don’t bowl and everyone is okay with it

How many of our batsmen can bowl like Root, Head or Markram

Failure of the system really U19 Jaiswal was a proper 7-8 over bowler even on a bad day.

Proper leg spin option
