Kumar
agreed, Dhoni didnt exactly get the big shots but neither he did something awful to let the team down. He and Gambhir atleast made sure they went 2 down into 15th over which gave Yuvi the license to go ballistic But Dhoni coming in at No.3 was plain dumb move unless he can hit the big ones...he is slowing the momentum For me this should be the order Rohit GG Raina Sehwag Yuvi Dhoni Yusuf seriously i have no idea why gambhir is even playing T20??????? he doesnt have the right mentallity to play in 20 overs especially considering a 46 ball 50 with 4/6 fours and he was dropped Gambhir is in the team due to dhoni, even dhoni is being as right tube for being at number 3. since he has become captain hes becoming selfish and making some aspect of the team work like promoting him to number 3, playing gambhir in t20 and backing yuvis spot in tests. He really needs to take yuvi out and get a yuongster in for tests, put raina or yuvi at three and kick gauti out of T20 team. Since Gambhir has been dubbed the new wall, he seems to be acting a lot like the wall in 2007/8 which his strike rate was terrible, even for strike rate in the bangla match was terrible. if the team wants to perfrom better this is what it should be Shewag Rohit Raina Yuvi Pathan Pathan/kumar Dhoni Ohja Zaheer/kumar RP singh Bhaji I think dhoni needs some T20 batting lessons from karthick now:haha: Link to comment

graphic23
Dude Gambhir was our best bat in last WC. Sheesh! And after the awesome 75 in the WC finals, he again performed in the T20 against Australia at home, winning the M.o.t.M award. But Gambhir, Dhoni both suck. Link to comment
Kumar
Dude Gambhir was our best bat in last WC. Sheesh! yea man, but he didnt play test cricket then dude, now since he has, his attitude has become different to T20, and considering he was india best batsmen in IPL last year what have we seen of him in this ipl serously mate would u chose him over yusuf or rohit in T20? im not syaing hes a bad player, not al all, i think hes one of our most consistent players, but his attitude in T20s lately against sir lanka, new zeland, IPL hasnt been great. hes not suited to T20 Link to comment

hitman1980
come on guys ... Ghambir had an off day ... he is too good as a batsman ... Actually we r used to play quality bowling so when we got these dollies they tried hitting it too hard :D ... So in the process they messed the runrate... Abt Dhoni, he is good batsman and fantastic leader, but with limited range of shorts.. He need someone with him who can keep hitting and along with it dhoni too can chip in ... Buts for once both the guys got stucked ... and he knows where he made the blunder and accepted tht in post match interview .. Imp thing is tht we showed banga boys who's the boss !!! Link to comment
vvvslaxman
i won't be harsh on Gambhir. He was struggling in IPL. He is slowly finding his feet here. He is much better player than we saw today. Dhoni is the one who has been progressively declining. In Gambhir's case it is a case of finding his rythm. But in Dhoni's case he has lost his rythm forever. Link to comment
The Outsider
I wouldn't fault Gambhir - his job in the side is clearly to hold one end up and strike at around the run a ball mark. Dhoni coming in at number 3 and batting like he has been lately makes no sense at all. Why do we need to sheet anchors at the crease at the same time? Link to comment
coffee_rules
Yuvraj saves Dhoni's ass today. Otherwise Dhoni would have done a Dravid ODI WC07 debacle, by choosing to bat first and score about 20 runs less. Link to comment
Ram
Dhoni at no.3 means we have TWO nudgers in the top 3, if you include Gambhir. In a team filled with power-hitters like us, that doesnt make sense. I can reconcile with our team making low scores if our batsmen are simply are not good enough. But, there's no way we can have our best hitters cool their heels while 2 batsmen on the pitch nudge and struggle their way to 6-7 runs/over. Make no mistake, Yuvi saved our collective arses today. And it could have so easily ended the other way too, had Mushfiqur Rahim not messed up the stumping chance of UV when he was on 1. Had BD taken that chance, we could have very well ended up with a 145-155 sorta total, which may have proven inadequate. Link to comment

King
Yousuf Pathan today got to face 1 ball and he was not out too .... enough said. In fact Yuvi, Raina, Yousuf and Irfan got to face 30 balls i.e 5 overs and they put together scored 63 runs more than 1/3rd of the total score. Link to comment

vipin
Dhoni should get his ass in only after gambhir and rohit sharma both get out. We cant afford to have two ticktukias at the crease at the same time. Raina must be sent at number 3. Followed by yuvraj at 4. Link to comment
devla
So I think Dhoni promoted himself here and in the IPL for the reason that he hasn't been successful in coming in with 5 or 6 overs to go and blast the bowling. For whatever reason, he seems to have lost his power strokeplay. And now he wants to fill a role of someone who can keep the innings together at one end with singles and twos while the other guys scores freely. I'm sold on the concept as such but what happens when the other guy cannot hit boundaries? Like Gambhir today. I think they need to sort out in who comes out in what situation. If Gambhir had gotten out in place of Rohit Sharma, Dhoni at no. 3 made sense. Also - Yuvraj in my opinion is better of coming in at no.5 or 6. He can play an explosive 25-30 run innings more often than not but not a 40-ball 70. In fact, he's probably the best to play a mini-cameo (and maybe Yusuf - but not sure of his form). So - here would by my order: Gambhir Sharma Raina / Dhoni (depending on who got out at 1/2) Raina / Dhoni Yuvraj Yusuf Irfan .... .... ... Comments? Link to comment

Comments? very good post and welcome to icf.i think dhoni's back injuries might have contributed his demise of power hitting which we saw early on his career.i think you forgot about viru who might come back next match which will make the batting order(hopefully)something like this- gautam viru rohit raina yuvi yusuf dhoni. The Dark Horse
there is only one situation in t20 when i want Dhoni to come in @3-that is when we lose an early wicket within the first 3 overs.i dont want him anywhere near the 3 postion otherwise.its not like yuvi' date=raina and yusuf are not in form. have u ever seen that happen??:hysterical::hysterical: ie. after he has become the captain?
