Dhoni has been batting awfully

miss that rash abrasive Dhoni who used to come in and belt 6 after 6. :(( I understand that being a captain brings with it a sense of responsibility, but feel that he should still go for the big shots now and then

He is our best choice. Despite being stubborn he is a smart guy. He will find a way to get back his form. As long as he doesn't drop sitters like Akmal i am happy. Yuvraj's return to form covered the poor form Dhoni adequately. In an ideal scenario you would want all 7 to fire. Sometimes it doesn't happen.

As it happens with all the batsmen ' date='he is [b']OUT OF FORM
Yeah mate, since 2 yrs. He thinks he is indispensable and irreplaceable. And not so long ago, so did Sourav. To give Dada credit, he lifted his game and made the greatest comeback in the history of this sport.

48 matches, 1541 runs@47..if that for you is being out of form, then a number of successful international batsmen have never been in good form throughout their career :--D As the OP says, his form in the last 12 months (specifically post the SL tri series in August). Has been getting starts and then getting out. The comparison with Dada is irrelevant, Dada played as a specialist batsman. MSD is playing as a keeper first and has been doing a more than decent job.

one of the reason for India's batting collapse .He used to finish matches for us ,but now he just doesn't do that :(

Isn't Dhoni the same player who averages more than 40 in this World Cup without even going past 30? I think its not just the SL series, but before it that Dhoni has been limiting himself to being the next Michael Bevan. But bevan would atleast avoid taking singles in the 49th over and give strike to lesser batsmen. He doesn't a decent job as a keeper, but if keeping is the criteria, there are far better ones in India. He gets through for his captaincy, the same way Dada did.

He still has an average of 48 in ODIs which is incredible for someone coming in at 5 or 6. He was very consistent for a long time and lost his form recently. Just needs one knock to get back to business.

Do you keep a count of the number of threads you have derailed with your Dada mania?

Dhoni has saved our as* more than any batsman in the last 5 years or so. Either pairing with Yuvraj or Raina or even Dinesh Karthik he has won few matches. This guy is our crisis man when there is a chase is on. Even against Pakistan recently he steadied the ship and took us to the brink of win and Raina finished it off. He comes low down the order. So the stats won't give a true picture of match situation. May be our top order consistently clicks and he didn't get that much opportunity to bat. Whenever he got opportunity for long periods more or less he did the job for us.

he played such a brutal innings in warmups against NZ,dunno wat happened afterwards,I think he should come in around 20 overs n hve more time to get set against spin

Dhoni has been batting awfully What has Dhoni done with the bat in this world cup? He was a flop in the last edition and is heading the same way in this one. When he comes in to bat I don't think of him as a proper batsman who can score lots of run, rather I see him like one of those tailenders who can bat and score 30 on a good day. He might as well stick to slogging like he used to because this new type of play is not working for him.

You cant expect everyone in the batting line up to fire all the time. MSD has been going through a bad patch for sometime. Hasn;t had any luck so far, in the match vs Eng and even yesterday good shots were hit straight to the fielder. With some luck this will change. And who knows his best may be saved for the last 2 games :--D

It is very hard all 7 batsmen to be in fine nick. 6 of our batsmen are in somewhat decent nick. Dhoni doesn't look out of form. He still middles it when he connects. One decent innings will set him off.Even other day shot was on.. I think he is alright.

My concern about Dhoni's batting yesterday was not about him getting out so soon, but the timing of it all and the fact that he was looking so obviously anxious to get started. We were still in a relatively good position at that point, and if Dhoni had just focused on running between the wickets like he did in the earlier matches, we wouldn't have suffered from that momentary palpitation. He seemed to be conscious of his own poor form with the bat and in a hurry to get a good score; I think it got to him, which is ironic considering he's supposed to have a cool head. God forbid if Raina had also got out soon after, Dhoni would've been the one to blame for the collapse.
