Gambhir has been one of the best indian odi batsman in last 2 years.You are mixing formats
Kohli & Dhoni will certainly dispute that...while Kohli has 2400 runs at an avg of 54 with 9 hundreds, Dhoni has 1288 runs at 61 with 1 100. Gambhir has 1400 runs at 41.00 with 2 100's (both 100's vs srilanka in the subcontinent)

He did move to #4 earlier and had some success. Might happen again if we're 2/20 in the next game.
yeah I am saying he should be permanent at no.5.he underestimates himself

How can you be that damn good in ODIs and totally the opposite in Tests?
He has good average for a wicket keeper batsman.

His patnership with tendulkar when we saw off the new ball was one of the reasons we won the cbseries.Shewag could not put bat to ball in aus odis.His knock against aus in the last odi in aus tour of india on a mumbai track which had bounce and seam and others were found out was the reason we won.He was batting at no7 and in many innings he got out trying to hit out.He plays the short ball well,yes he has some problems agianst moving ball but its not as if our other batsman are dravid . http://www.espncricinfo.com/indvaus/engine/current/match/297799.html
That was 4 years ago and except those two scores in 30s he didnt achieve much in that tour either. Uthappa can't hack it against even above average bowling. I don't see what potential you find in him for ODIs. He will make the same 20s and 30s that Sehwag makes in ODIs most of the time, and wont give the occasional big score that Sehwag makes. In T20s he can be given a shot, but I highly doubt he will be able to perform in ODIs

I don't believe it is time to drop either Gambhir or Sehwag in ODIs. Gambhir has had a very good 2012. He was great in Australia and scored runs just recently against Sri Lanka. Let's not be too rash. A top order collapse in an ODI is not cause for panic.

It's a totally different ball game isn't it? You don't have the persistent slips and gullies in ODIs as opposed to those in Tests. Also, he still ain't that bad at tests as well, just that he's the "punching bag" :winky:

He has not played after 2008 after been dropped after we lost asia cup against mendis. Opening batsman struggled in that tour even tendulkar struggled till finals and shewag could not last few overs.I showed some innings where the conditions were tough and he slugged it out against Top attacks even in mumbai lee,johnson,clarke.He has to be given a chance .

msb with Sehwag's each innings, its becoming quite apparent that he has almost lost it especially against better bowling units. He doesn't seem to be too keen to work on his game / fitness either. Only time he looks like scoring big runs is on absolutely dead wickets. In nearly all of his recent ODI knocks, he has hardly looked out of touch but has played lazy shots and thrown it away. With seniors around and the team doing well, those shots and cute 20s-30s were valuable, but with a younger middle order it's not going to work anymore.
