jusarrived Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 VVS's first series in Aus . Scored 160 of Indias total ~270 I think . The shots he played against a high quality attack where just unreal .
vvvslaxman Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63525.html I hate Ian smith for this. NZ was down and out for the count when he played this blinder
Lord Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63525.html I hate Ian smith for this. NZ was down and out for the count when he played this blinder 173 off 136:ohmy:
vvvslaxman Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Another epic knock was Ian Botham's 149 in 148 balls when they were 135 for 7 and 82 runs behind heading towards heavy innings defeat http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63291.html
vvvslaxman Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63915.html honorable mention. Pollock's century down the order.
Lurker Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63525.html I hate Ian smith for this. NZ was down and out for the count when he played this blinder Ian Smith was notorius for such innings. His strike rate is the best of the times ahead of both Kapil Dev and Viv Richards. I think Ian Smith and Kapil Dev are 1-2 in Strike rates in LOI for the time. I would probably go with Ian Smith as T20 wicket keeper ahead of many of his glorious counterparts.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Another epic knock was Ian Botham's 149 in 148 balls when they were 135 for 7 and 82 runs behind heading towards heavy innings defeat http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63291.html Marsh and Lillee bet against Australia at odds of 500-1. Imagine if a modern player did that.
Yoda-esque Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Gilchrist-Langer against Pak.It was important because it kinda started that Aussie Jaggernaut.. Azhar-SRT: For pure strokeplay and and a connoiseur's delight SRT - in Chennai against Pak on a minefield of a pitch against Saqlain and Akram. Dravid - VVS
Cricket Tragic Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63915.html honorable mention. Pollock's century down the order. Reminds me of Pat Symcox against Pakistan in 1998.
coffee_rules Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 KP Oval knock..did you count how many lives he got. Ugly innings .
Andrew Peter Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 What about the one played by Mike hussey against Pakistan at Sydney ?
The Outsider Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Surprised to see only one mention of Kapil for the tied test so far: 1. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63588.html India were 27/5 when he walked in and 31/6 soon. He even gave India an outside chance to win while he was still batting. 2. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63534.html The 4 sixes follow on saving innings. 3. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63314.html One of the greatest days an all rounder can ever experience. After smashing 89 off 55 deliveries (took so long because he was shielding Doshi) came back and knocked 3 wicket off in his first 5 overs. 4. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63316.html Same series as above. Nearly a run a ball hundred to save the follow on. 5. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63330.html The reverse swing test match.
vayuu1 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Kapil paaji 175 if it wasn't for that we wouldn't have won world cup waugh against saffers 99wc kohli ,gg,dhoni wc final knock, desilva against us in 96 wc semifinal and misbah against us in 20 20 final,2001 netwest final kaif and yuvi got victory from jaws of defeat and inji in karachi first oneday 2003 against us and kohli 183 against pak
CG Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Another of kapil paaji gems -http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63469.html
CSK Fan Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Kamran Akmal's knock in the Irfan hat-trick game was pretty special as well. From 0/3 and IIRC 40 odd for 5 he took Pakis to 240 :hatsoff: +1 Yup. he started attacking India was running out of options. Before we knew they got to a decent total. That was a great knock no doubt, but did you guys really enjoy it? Check the OP title
Ultimate_Game Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 That was a great knock no doubt' date=' but did you guys really enjoy it? Check the OP title[/quote'] Nope didn't enjoy it but you have to admire the innings. To me the essence of the thread is to list the best counter-attacking innings else you will be left with just the Indian innings.
vvvslaxman Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 That was a great knock no doubt' date=' but did you guys really enjoy it? Check the OP title[/quote'] You caught us. Yes certainly none of us would have enjoyed.
Stan AF Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Your favorite test batting counterattacks!!! My fav is such knock is: Sachin/azhar smashing SA in 1996/97. At less than 50 runs for 4/5 wkts down Sach/Azhar come together and belt donald, pollock, klusener, paul adams all over the park. A 200+ (??) p/ship in no time. 2) Dravid/VVS - Kolkatta 2001. (Should be No 1 but in my list is No 2) 3) Dravid/VVS - Adelaide 2003. 3)Chanderpaul/sarwan against Australia in WI 2003. 4) Sachin/Shewag - SA Blomfontein 2001.
vvvslaxman Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 There is already a thread existing for this. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=286682&highlight=counter
maniac Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Since everyone seemed to mention most of the innings I would have on my list...I tried to have a more recent take on this without going retro More recently...Warner's blitz against us in Perth...Say what you want about our attack but going by the Pitch and how his teammates performed...it was a brilliant innings...apart from the openers the next highest was a freaky 30 by a tail-ender.His innings singlehandedly was the final nail in our coffin in that series. Abdul Razzaq against S.A in U.A.E was a special innings too...that was some unbeleivable hitting Kohli's innings in Aus vs Sl was definetely a counterattacking given the situation we were in...I mean the scenario and also until then Kohli was never known to be a player who could score at the rate f knots....that was some innings ... Ross Taylor's innings in the Bangalore test was a very good knock too..almost gave them a sniff of a victory.
