A new report by the British Council has revealed that a majority of 38 percent of Pakistani youths believe that Shariah law is the best system for that country. The report, which focused on youths in the 18 to 29 age group, concluded: "Islamic Shariah...is favoured for its ability to advance moral and religious values. It is also thought to be the best system for giving people their rights and freedom, for promoting tolerance, and making the country a fairer one." 32 percent of over 5,200 youths surveyed backed military rule. Only 29 percent favoured democracy. The report also pointed to deeply pessimistic sentiments within that age group: 94 percent think the country is heading in the wrong direction, a figure up from 50 percent the last time a survey was conducted in 2007. It is estimated there are over 25 million registered voters aged between 18 and 29 - slightly more than 30 percent of the electorate - making that demographic key in the upcomming general election. Fasi Zaka, a member of the task force behind the survey, highlighted a worrying statistic in that "a quarter of all young people have been directly affected by violence or witnessed a serious violent event." Despite Pakistan's chronic problem with violence, however, the report indicates that the greatest worry for the country's youth is inflation. Only 10 percent believed terrorism was the country's biggest issue

The best Law is what we have at present... a) throw acid at a women face, get bail @ 3 mths.. those who have done the act get married and have a family.. just u can visit the local police station to say "Hello" once a mnth.. the one who suffered leading a miserable life each minute. b) Burn a old lady just to Jail present husband / run with lover... get caught .. found guilty .. gets bail within 6 mnths .. have nice life. c) Pick pocket Rs 200... no bail accepted until pays Rs 10,000... he cannot pay being a poor fellow..gets jail for more than a year.. d) Murder someone ... in Jail .. taking medical assistance .. in Hospital for more than 2 years... Surprising few mnths ago the whole of India including ICF members were asking for death penalty for delhi rapist..

Just because some people were asking for death penalty for rapist doesnt mean they have anything to do with Taliban. Its actually Taliban practice to stone the victims to death because they think they are responsible for rapes. Also I'll care about whatever I want. No, we do not need any new change in laws. We already have tough laws in place for all the crimes you gave as example in the last post. Having laws in place has never been a problem in India, I dont know why people dont understand this When a criminal commits a crime, he doesnt think about the law. He doesnt think about what article he is commiting the crime under and how long the punishment is going to be. Criminals do not have the capacity to think in such terms. However, they do get worried about getting caught and getting prosecuted in the first place and herein lies India's problems, not with the laws. They only think, if I commit this crime, what are the chances of me being caught, what are the chances of me getting away with it even if caught by bribing, using my father's clout etc. What deters a criminal is in the following order 1) Possibilty of getting caught - Of course no one wants to be caught and known as a rapisti or a criminal . They have to face friends and family. But if the possibility of getting caught itself is low, then obviously people will be encouraged 2) Possibility of getting convicted - This is the stage where India has most problems. Police refuse to take complaints. They mess up the tests, they harrass the victim. Witnesses are forced to change statements, victim get threatened, politicians & people with clout exert pressure. If we improve the conviction rate for crimes, then I believe crime will automatically fall. People quote Arab countries as having a low crime rate because of tough laws. But IMO, more than the law, their amazing conviction rate is what deters the criminals 3) The quantum of punishment comes last, IMO. You can shout from the rooftops about death penalties and castaration, but as long as the criminal doesnt get convicted or the innocent are given false punishments, no criminal is going to be deterred by just the law being there on paper So I believe we already have a lot of tough laws. We just need a better enforcing, non-corrupt, non-chauvinist system in place

For then, i am simply telling my kids to believe in somethign that has no basis of truth to it. As a parent, i am curious to how you feel about telling your kids what they should do with their lives and their personal choices, when you are essentially telling them to be something on the basis of pure assumption. That is, in essence, misleading your child. A cold but bitter truth, which i realized when my kid asked me why i have pictures of me wearing a thread.
