In IPL, most teams get the same cut from tv rights and major sponsors. So the less the spend, the more profit they make. Salary cap was introduced to make sure all teams are more or less competitive. Not that spending a lot of money is going to get good team, KKR and Pune are examples of this. Apart from that 1st season, RR has failed to even look as a contenders for the playoffs in the next 4 years. Only Pune has such a bad record in the last few years. In T20s, you dont need a team filled with great players, you can do well with a collection of good/decent players, but not consistently enough. For IPL teams, making into the Champions league gets an extra 10% or more. So they would easily take making it into champions league every other time even if they are at the bottom of the IPL table the other times.

I do believe Sawai Man Singh stadium is the smallest of all the major venues in the IPL. Plus unlike Mumbai where a single ticket (charity quota for poor children aisde) is Rs1000 plus they cant charge that sort of money in Jaipur. So they are handicapped by a team not being in the rich part (relatively) of India and at the same time have a small ground. I am sure if they move to A'bad and call themselves something else they can make lots of money. Motera is a bigger stadium and also a much richer place. The IPL wont allow it or did not allow it is another issue.

They have always looked as strong contenders only to lose out at the ending stages. That's been the last 4 years for them. RR really is the best example out there on how a team itself is greater than the sum of individual talents.

They have the 3rd highest winning percentage after CSK and MI, so certainly cannot be doing as poorly as you are suggesting.

vvvslaxman Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I like these guys definitely. This is one team that has been carrying underdog tag from first season. They have done reasonably well over the 6 seasons. Warne and Dravid have both have done a fabulous job with this team.

Rahul Dravid is admired everywhere because of his humility and straight-forward attitude and the players just go about their job without much fuss. I hope they make the play-offs too. i think chances are slim though for making them to playoff.both rr and srh are almost similarly placed with almost similar opponents match coming up and a single match between them coming up.now i think the match between rr and srh will be the one that willdetermine who will go through.i think srh have already won that game considering match is in hyderabad.

I think not making it to the champions league might have led me to think of them as bad statistically.
