The young fire of Irfan Pathan, fractured skull delivery

Zimbabwe's forgettable one-day tour went from bad to worse when opening batsman Mark Vermeulen was ruled out of cricket for three months with a fractured skull. Vermeulen was taken to hospital with a depressed fracture after top-edging a hook shot off an Irfan Pathan bouncer into his forehead in Zimbabwe's 24-run loss to India in their day-nighter at the Gabba. It is not the first time Vermeulen has suffered such an injury. He was hit above the left eye when training in the nets during last year's World Cup. Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak said the injury was not only a major blow but cost his team a chance at victory after peeling off 103 runs in their last 12 overs to need 24 from the final three overs. "It's just really sad. We've already lost Craig Wishart, and to lose Mark is a big blow to Zimbabwe cricket," he said. "If he was able to come back who knows what the result might have been?" The 24-year-old was wearing a new-style helmet but the ball travelled between the visor and peak - and wedged there - leaving him bloodied and bruised. Vermeulen will require reconstructive surgery and is expected to stay in Brisbane for the rest of the week. He was on 14 at the time and was forced to retire hurt immediately. He used to bowl 140+ and had the ability to swing the ball both ways with the new ball back then. He was one of the bright prospects along with RP Singh who also had the ability to swing the ball and bowl 135-140k. Now Irfan has become a 125k bowler.

no he was always around 135-6.he was never 140+ bowler.bowled odd one at 140 which he still does sometimes. his losing swing is a bigger issue than losing pace anyway

Pathan's days are done. If we need an allrounder, Sir is there. Sad because, I used to be a huge fan and really wanted him to do well.

wow.. Never recall this incident. Thanks. Though it involves an injury, part that makes me see this video again and again is Irfan's run up and release. I am pretty sure this is not the same that we see from him these days.

What happened to this Irfan :(( As a bits anbd pieces allrounder now,I still rate him over Sir though in terms of natural ability, but Sir right now easily is the best allrounder in ODI's

The best part of the video - the water mark!
Any pro-Indian video i upload ends up being re-uploaded on an Indian channel with ads thrown on it, im tired of people making good money off my efforts. There's not much I can do about it, part from stopping uploading altogether.

He was an excellent bowler. With swing it's really hard to discover it once you lose it. Perhaps fitness would help: I think he was fitter I'm 2004. That is a long time ago though. As a young bowler playing international u19 he swing the ball in and late. What the issue is now is that it doesn't swing late. It swings straight from the hand. He reminds me of what happened to Rana Naved. Rana wasnt a good test bowler like Irfan but he lost his swing due to poor fitness and became easier to hit.

He never bowled 140 plus. He was mainly 130-140K.

He lost pace too when he changed his action after back injury and started bowling 125K.

Tsotsobe also bowls in the late 120's, but he looks much faster than..Irfan needs to put on act as if he is bowling fast, skill is evident..I still think he should not go the Agarkar way

It was not due to Irfan's pace or anything ,just the pull shot was hit into the head , had the ball directly hit and then something would have happened , then Irfan could have been to said to have some pace.

No amount of preaching is going to change people.

I think there may be a way out with it - let me do my research and get back to you. I will contact you on Twitter. The way the people do that is use the Youtube API to automatically download videos and then upload them. It's just a 1-click job if the programs are written efficiently.
