Last couple of years which Cook had is hard to replicate, I don't think Sachin ever had the run which Cook has in last couple of years. He is just rock solid nothing bothers him, let us see if this ODI stint will be his downfall.He started to look like he is getting Gambhiritis poking outside off stump in odi to get singles which signaled the end of Gambhir.

Err, Cookie has had a monster 2011 (averages 85 or so) and has had decent last two years (averages high 40s in 2012 and so far in 2013). He *may* get there if he plays till 40 or so because while England plays more tests than India and Cookie being an opener gets more innings/test (Cookie has 1.77 innnigs per test, Goddy has 1.65 innings per test IIRC) , he definitely is not approaching Goddy's average, especially when he averages 45 at home. As for those who think Tendulkar has not had monster years- 2010 was a monster year for him and Tendy averages 59 over 257 innings between 1993 and 2010. That's 18 years averaging almost 60 and Cookie will need atleast 30-40 more innings than Tendy to match his record. Possible but if Goddy bats well and lasts another year, it'd be nearly impossible ( between now and Dec 2014 India plays 17 tests).

Sachin has been averagin 50+ since May 1997. That's effing 16 years with 50+ average. That's some amazing consistency. Sachin has had monster years as well, but barring 2-3 years, he generally has been consistent. So, to emulate him, it has to be constant performance right through.

So 8 years to go and 15 tests per year means about 120 tests more 120 tests is about 240 innings per test. Lets put it down to 220 innings for follow ons and innings victories. So 220 innings x an average of 45 is about 9900 runs. More than averages Cook and England play a tremendous amount of test cricket. So long as he averages above 40 and lasts till 36 without injury the highest run scorer tag is in his bag.

Cook IMO will go till about 135-140 tests at max, ehis captaincy cutting short his career. Would mean him being the captain for about 50 tests, by then England would enter into a cycle of defeats, Cook will lose his captaincy and the place in the side.

I dont think that anybody has played 13-14 years. But thats cause most english batsman barring cook and now root have made their debuts when they are in the 26-28 bracket. 140 tests from the 92 currently means cook means 48 tests or effectively 3-4 years more. He will have to go through a drastic slump in form for that to happen.
