Dhoni's hitting, after suffering from a mid-career slump around 2009-2011, is making a forceful comeback in the last couple of years. If you recall, his T20 batting was even considered a liability at one point, with SR's for CSK and Team India being significantly below the team averages. But there has been a spectacular turnaround in the last 18 months.

His T20 batting is still considered a liability especially when playing for India. Please just because he tonks a few sixes in short boundaries and some of them of outside edges does not change the fact that he's a changed player now. Not the same player as before. A few sixes against a clown like Perera and Sammy shouldn't change any perceptions.

Are you kidding me? Did you watch the previous IPL at all? He was absolutely devastating with the bat. I acknowledge that his T20 batting was dodgy for a while, but has been devastating in the recent past.

I don't give any importance to an IPL match. There are far too many part timers and trundler brigade in between a good fast bowler here and there. So numbers are a bit skewed. I was very impressed with Dhoni in that double hundred against Pattinson and company though. Wonderful hitting

I am not going by numbers, I am going by reality. The absolute fact of the matter is, MSD's hitting prowess is making a grand comeback into his game after an extended period of struggle in between. This has been showcased not just in IPL games, but in international matches for India also. This man is, beyond a shadow of doubt, the greatest limited overs batsmen of our generation (yes, i am including the likes of Sachin, Bevan, Ganguly, Yuvraj etc in the conversation). To use his name and the word 'liability' in the same name is high questionable.

You are joking right??? The guy is good probably will make it to the top 50-100 greatest LOI cricketers of all time but in terms of memorable innings he is not even in the same league as Yuvraj....IPL exploits or worthless SL tri-series and Bilaterals get too much focus shifted from all other games. Before we go further I will tell you this we are lucky to have a guy like Dhoni in our team but calling him the best based on a few good knocks against srilanka is a bit too much. Just because he hit the winning 6 his memory will be etched in our memory for ever but if you dissect the game,he was the 3rd best batsman in that game.....No way One can attribute the WC to him as he was average throughout the tourney either as a captain or a player. Was a failure in all editions of WT20,Champions trophy etc. All of a sudden he hits an average SL bowler whose name I cant remember of top of my head,he is the best finisher the game has ever seen...You must be kidding me. Take out your CSK glasses and you will see the world very differently.

Dhoni backs himself to murder even guys like Steyn. INdia is so lucky to have such a beast.
Dhoni will fail 9/10 against any half a decent bowler on most pitches...Pitches even overseas are pretty flat for LOI games ,hence he has had the success in the format. But credit where due....what seperates him from the likes of Pollard, etc is he picks his battles and is a real master at that, for that :hatsoff:....There is a reason why he doesn't have a single test 100 overseas or he goes about slogging in test cricket like a headless chicken where as he plays a more waiting game in LOI's. There is a reason why this guy is succesful he is very smart but as a cricketer pretty mediocre.
