Not commenting this in case of Lalu, but the ordinance of disqualification of convicted MPs will be thoroughly exploited for political gains especially by government machinery in CBI. The ordinance should be about a conviction from an independent panel of judges and not CBI.

kapil sibbal was his lawyer. Would have seen the conviction coming and was preparing ordinance side-by-side as the law minister.
Is it true? That's clear conflict of interest.

He has been. In 1998, Lalu sponsored him to Rajya Sabha from Bihar.
It is notable that Sibal had first become an MP only thanks to Lalu Prasad Yadav. Since Sibal was his lawyer, Yadav had sponsored him for the Rajya Sabha. Now that Yadav fears an adverse verdict in the Rs 800-crore fodder scam, Sibal may have decided to return the favour by protecting Yadav’s membership of the Lok Sabha should the Supreme Court convict him. Because the SC order was expected on September 30, Sibal could not wait for Parliament to decide the fate of the Amendment Bill lying with a standing committee. Hence the ill-fated move to save convicted netas.

I always say this. People say govt. is run by Sonia and Rahul and not MMS, but I say govt. is neither run by Sonia or Rahul or MMS, but by a group of ministers like Kapil Sibbal, Kamalnath, Jaiswal, etc. and most of the important decisions are taken by these guys. Gandhis are just used as faces of the party to attract voters.

Rajya Sabha member Rasheed Masood of the Congress was Tuesday sentenced to four years in jail for fraudulently nominating undeserving candidates from across the country to MBBS seats in 1990-91, making him the first to stand disqualified as a lawmaker.
thought it was Lalu who was disqualified first
