Dravid was a shadow of himself from December 2006. His record since his debut till November 2006 reads 104 matches 9049 runs average 58.75 with 23 hundreds. Even if he had retired at that time, he would have been considered an ATG with this record. Ponting also has a very similar record which is boosted by 5-years of brilliance between 2002-2006. His record before and after is pretty mediocre though India's tour to Aus in 2012 boosted his record a bit when they all feasted on mediocre Indian bowling. Ponting's record from Jan 1, 2007 reads. 59 tests, 4055 runs, 221 highest, 40.14 average, 8 centuries. 8 hundreds in 59 tests is too low a number for a batsman like Ponting that people talk about being an ATG and the closest rival of SRT. In his first 50 tests too, he averaged only 44. So there you have 109 tests out of 168, he averaged 42 and the rest 59 tests between 2002-2006, he averaged 70 plus.

I'd say that Kallis was more of a rival.....averaged higher than SRT in the noughties (59.67 from 2000-13 compared to SRT's 52.33) and has taken a good number of wickets too.....you could say that Kallis has been the better player in Tests because of his over all contribution.......

But that is where the different lies. You cannot defined SRT just by sheer numbers. Kallis has as good a record but still can never show a batsmanship like him.

Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will host India's two Tests against West Indies in November, which will mark the end of Sachin Tendulkar's 24-year career. While Eden Gardens will host the first Test from November 6 to 10, Tendulkar's farewell Test will be played at his home ground from November 14 to 18. The decision was taken during the BCCI's tour, programme and fixtures committee meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday.

I find it incredible that Sachin's mother has never seem him play any tests/ODI's in person in a stadium from 1989-2013 in an almost 25 year period ..I understand she might have medical difficulties now but not even in early 90s ..Was this some kind of superstiation??
