Anybody else feeling slightly depressed?

Its starting to sink in slowly with every hour.... Maybe its hit me a bit harder. I have been born and raised in the UK. All my relatives are from Mumbai. I first saw Sachin in the 1996 world cup. It was the first thing about cricket I remember in all detail. He was my link to the city. I have never lived permanently in Mumbai but i became a mumbaikar because of him. It spurred my interest in cricket and made me interested in India and the Mumbai ranji team.....fanatical even. I feel that link is dead......a part of me is dead. For many foreign born Indian fans Sachin was their link to the land of their ancestors and their culture. That goes beyond cricket. Look at the tweets of Ravi Bopara and Monty Panesar. Both of them consider Sachin their hero. They may play for England for financial reasons but they will always support India in their hearts. I am feeling so after he got dismissed at 74. And Bopara, Monty are Sachin fanboys. Bopara was so crazy for Sachin that he was strictly instructed by Vaughan to see him as an oppoment instead of " admiring his shots " in the field. Monty well, we all know how he celebrated after dismissing Sachin 1st time in England 07 and last year at Mumbai. SRT was his dream wicket.

Slightly? Agree GB. I'm a bit older than you it seems, born and raised in London. Growing up as a brown kid in the 80/90s was no cakewalk. That constant struggle to figure out where you belonged. Tendulkar gave me reason to be Indian and boy it felt good..

It doesnt matter where i was born it matters how much sachin meant to me as a cricket player born in uk lived in India for 12 years i actually grew up watching tendulkar,s innings desert storm 1998 made me become one of sachin,s die hard fans i have no shame to admit that i actually cried and i am deeply upset.Sachin Tendulkar made this game more popular the impact he created is unbelievable i remember how people used to switch the tvs off when sachin was out the lone warrior innings he played in may games .

amen to that... :hatsoff: Atleat you were in the melting pot called london. I was tucked away down south in hampshire. It was more acute for me. Todays London is like the UN. Very easy to hang onto your culture. Dont get me wrong, i feel proud to be living in the UK and i feel proud of my Indian roots. I am at ease with myself. @sarkar That was a special innings.

Ditto, very at ease with myself, proud to be British Indian. But once was a time when the sight of a brown man on English telly, whether it be the news or a soap opera or a quiz show was a collectors item. And then along comes a genuine world beater, a misfit almost. I don't think Indian generations to come will ever quite understand the true context of Tendulkar's emergence and his impact on the entire Indian diaspora.

With Dravid, VVS, Ganguly. It hadn't hit so hard, they played IPL for more than couple of years after they quit. With Sachin, there is a feeling that we may not see him connected to cricket in a big way like RD/Lax/Gangu are atm, or even coaching for that matter.

It will only hit me when i watch India's next test match and he does not walk out after the 2nd Indian wicket has fallen. It felt weird not seeing Dravid play at 3 after he retired (he was my favourite cricketer of all time) but without Sachin it will be even more alien.
