7000 runs from 81 tests at 46 is not possible for cook most likely. because: from 80 tests, Cook will likely play 1.75-1.8 innings per test as opener (that is extremely optimistic). That means Cook will bat in 140-145 innings. Of them, he probably will remain not out in 5% or so- which would make it 7 innings of not outs or so. so that means cook is dismissed 133-138 times, assuming he plays 100% of these matches. That at 46 yeilds just over 6000-6500 runs. bringing his tally to roughly 13500-14000 runs ( IIRC he sits at 7500 ish runs now, right?) All that, assuming he plays 100% of the matches for the next six and half years. Realistically, he would do extremely well to go 6-7 years of wrong side of 30s and still play 90% of those matches, so Cook's tally at 36 seems roughly in the 13000-13300 range. And in all honestly, he'd do well to get there at this rate, since his form is plumeting pretty badly these days. Even if he does recover old cook form, he'd still be around 2K short realistically from Tendy with 'curtains any minute now' tune playing, as he'd be past 36.

Cook is not even the best test batsman of his era. KP, ABDV and Clarke are. SRT was considered an ATG even before he hit his test peak at the age of 25. So greatness goes beyond stats.

Considering his bad form as a captain.....he may be removed as the captain of his team shortly..... This would result in lack of confidence(knowing that his country itself didn't support him ,unlike tendulkar).we saw it in england's first innings....When u are critizied you find more great ways to get critized...good luck cook.

so basically the bigger goal for this series is to make sure cook gets dropped and he has to take 1-2 years to work his way back into the eng side. that way we ensure that sachin remains unchallenged for forseeable future :)

Cook might be at a disadvantage of mostly playing in DRS conditions and outside sub continent...
But he has the advantage of large no of tests at his peak unlike India did during 90s

you might be forgetting no. of wrong decisions SRT got and cook does not need DRS as he mostly gives edges to slips and WK.
