It's not about form with ishant. On pitches with more bounce he struggles to adjust his length which is why his bowling average is so high in south africa england and australia. In odis he's fine because the batsman are forced to play him and he picks up wickets regularly as a result. Yadav is a better strike bowler than bhuvenshwar and sharma.

The 20 wickets task We haven't been able to bowl teams out in ODI'S but do you think our bowlers can get us 20 wickets in the test? You have to take 20 wickets to win the match in South Africa. It's not going to be easy, but I think we have a better chance of bowling a team out in test than ODI'S with a single bowler bowling long spells. In ODI'S 50 over games, our bowlers are not able to make much impact. They are not bowling long spells, too much changing and chopping being done. Longer spells, more wickets and bowlers will settle down well. I think also Zaheer's inclusion should make a difference. What you reckon? Will we have hard time or be able to get 20 wickets in a game?

Zaheer lasted all four tests of our last overseas tour, so yes.

This is actually perfect for Zaheer. He has to give it all for just 2 games and not 3. Usually he breaks down by end of 2nd or 3rd and if he can keep his fitness, I think he will delivery well for us in two test. I haven't watched any of him since his return to Ranji, but I am sure he is still the best in India. Yes, should be better than even Shami. Shami, Bhuvi or Umesh or Ishant migh take wicket from othe other end, but Zaheer will be the one who will make the impact. I am really looking forward to his return. I rate him really high. He is not our best, but probably one of the best in the world.

If you cut that out then Indian bowlers will struggle to get wickets. That's what they did in ODIs.. they hardly played any risky shots untill the slog overs. If they take the same approach then we are in trouble.. Key is to bat first and bat long to create pressure.. or Bat second and again bat long in first innings..

I don't think we will be able to win that fast. Give our players atleast 4 days to win. I mean we are good but not that great yet.

Our batting should improve, we have been winning abroad based on the bulk of batting cushion only, even in Perth '08, or SA 2011, Laxman scored a 96 in the second innings to set up a fine victory. We need batting to come good for our bowling to come good.

I think we'll pick 20 wickets. Look, Shami, like every other bowler, is limited in ODIs because he can only bowl 10 overs! When he's in tests, he's gonna do well hopefully and bowl longer spells. he looks attacking and combined with umesh and ishant (if he bowls with fire like today) PLUS Zak and maybe Bhuvi as a backup, it looks potent.

True but that was them at their best. I am sure they are still pretty good, but that was a purple patch form when everything was going right from them. I think we should do better than that. I have lot of confidence in Zaheer. He is coming fresh. He is better than any other bowler in the world barring Steyn or Mitchell Johnson right now. I am sure he will make sure we don't concede 500 runs like that. Shami should be able to help him. For a change, our bowling attack looks a bit fresh compared to before when we were going England and Austrlaia tour with World Cup stress, IPL, and meaningless series. This time we should do good. I hope we are able to consistently score 300+ as tjat will give us the best chance to win. I am calling for Pujara/Rahane to be the unsung hero among all the hype for other players. I rate Rahane higher than Rohit.

If wrist slitting is one exteme , this optimism is another, if I was a safe investor my money will be on india having no chance....infact our bowling might surprise us but batting has no hope. Even in England and Australia our bowlers dI'd put us in decent position at least a couple of times

On SA pitches 20 wickets is not a problem asked welegedera .Its how many we can score.On last away trips we had teams at 300 at mcg and trent bridge and were in good positions but threw it away.India strength has always been battig and we play 7 batsman away so if u cannot score 300 or close to 300 its hopeless .But if we manage a decent score our bowlers with zak,shami,yadav/ishant will do well even offspinners have been effective in sa in tests.I still have hopes we can suprise Sa.One of best decisons of bcci was to play odis first.

Umesh needs to hit that three quarter length consistently. Needs a lot if practice in the nets before tests.

seeing today's crappy fielding of ours it is creating more doubts. I don't understand we do really good ground fielding but when it comes catches our players have cold feet. Slip catching has been concern in the past we cant give any southafrican player another chance like we did with english. Dravid and Laxman have been superb in the past but kohli and pujara were poor in the england series. I hope we don't drop dollies like we have in the past. Fielding is definitely more practice I don't know if our fielding coaching is laying more emphasis on ground fielding .
