NareshK Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If Ashwin had been in the side, he would have scored runs as he plays pace very well. We would have extended the total by 30 runs at least.
div Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 One batsmen. How much do Siddle' date=' Harris or Hilfenhaus average ? Or Broad, Anderson, Bresnan for that matter ? Also these are conditions England and Australia [b']are familiar with because they play on such tracks at home. How often do Indian tailenders play in conditions like these ? Swann-28 Johnson-71 at least one bowler scores some runs..Don't u remember Mitchel Starc's 99 against India in India?
Sidhoni Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If we want a good tail, then we can play Ashwin, Bhuvi, Zak and Ishant at 8,9,10 & 11. Ashwin is a potentially good all rounder, Bhuvi-Ishant can hang around, Zak can hit a few. We do miss Bhajji for his batting, he played many important knocks for us at 8. Ram Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Why dont i give you a bat and see how long you can survive one bowler steaming in and hurling missiles at 145 kph and another 6'8 giant delivering projectiles than graze your helmet grill? It is pretty useless to blame specialist bowlers for not scoring. We dont expect our specialist batsmen to take wickets, why should it be the other way around? Ajinkya Rahane had a massive rookie moment when took a single off the first ball of Steyn's over and exposed zak and Ishant. Blame him, dont blame Zak, Ishant and Shami.

dangerman1985 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 very long tail which starts from dhoni
Ram Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 so pace is important :winky: I see what you did there. :winky: You can use pace to bully cricket novices (like you and me) and noobie batsmen (like Shami, Ojha etc). But pace alone does not gets you wickets against front line batsmen.
Ram Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 The truth of the matter is, Dhoni's weakness against the outswininging ball abroad probably is the world's wost kep secret. Very rarely do we see a batsmen get out literally the EXACT same fashion every time he plays in Aus/Eng/SAF. Weird part is, he does not seem to faced by quick or short-pitched bowling. But a quality outswinger outside off-stump works with MSD like Kryptonite works against Superman. You dont need to look any further than the current Ashes to see how important the no.7 position. In all tests except Adelaide, Aus have been 150 or less for the loss of 5 wickets and every single time, Haddin has riden to their rescue in some form or the other. This seems like a very difficult problem to address. MSD is our most successful captain and a very solid keeper. His batting is also extremely reliable in favorable conditions (that double 100 against Aus in Chennai! Woah..!). But when we travel abroad, it is like seeing the same movie you have always hated being screened for Diwali, every single year! He is not going to get better overnight and we are not going to find another wicket-keeping captain overnight. Dunno exactly how we are going to come out of this.
fineleg Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 MSD is our most successful captain Correction: in ODIs. In Tests the 0-8 and 1-2 at home - our "Test fortress" against Eng are major blots and a very solid keeper. "Average keeper". Not bad, not great. Weak when keeping for spinners. But not bad. His batting is also extremely reliable in favorable conditions True.
maniac Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 ^Even in ODIs only at home-Asia Cup,CB Series,England ODI's in England,SA ODIs in SA
ThePhenomenal1 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 wouldnt need to rely so much on tail if we could take wickets and restrict the run flow in the first session and beyond. But no, their 80odd for 0 in their first session, with no effort at all
Ram Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Correction: in ODIs. In Tests the 0-8 and 1-2 at home - our "Test fortress" against Eng are major blots . I see that you have Masters Degree in the field of 'Selective Statistical&Results Picking'. Was your thesis titled as follows - 'How to Pick MSD's worst losses as captain and ignore his other wins..' :phehehe: And btw, you still have not stopped your usual BS way cordoning off tests/ODIs to analyze cricketers, have you?
The Realist Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 He is not going to get better overnight and we are not going to find another wicket-keeping captain overnight. Dunno exactly how we are going to come out of this. The solution is to find a better wicket keeper and then a separate captain. Dhoni's getting old and arguably his best days are behind him. His shelf life as a captain especially in tests is past it's sell by date. Dhoni in not the solution, he is part of the problem.
The Outsider Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Dhoni should be replaced. Only players who can perform under all conditions should be in the test team, even if it is at the expense of an inferior performance at home, where the buffer is much larger.

Sriram, Are you kidding me? You mean to say - looking at ODIs and Tests separately is not right? Mix them all together to evaluate success!?? Is that how we do - to evaluate Yuvi - a great in ODIs and a flop in Tests? or a Raina or a Dhoni as a player (or captain)...
moniker Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Why dont i give you a bat and see how long you can survive one bowler steaming in and hurling missiles at 145 kph and another 6'8 giant delivering projectiles than graze your helmet grill? Ajinkya Rahane had a massive rookie moment when took a single off the first ball of Steyn's over and exposed zak and Ishant. Blame him, dont blame Zak, Ishant and Shami. Specialist batsmen don't have to bowl. Bowling can be taken care of by 5 or 6 players, be it specialists or part timers. But the whole eleven has to bat at some point or another. More important for bowlers to learn to hold the bat than for batsmen to roll over their arms.
Cricketics Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Just takes few hours for England to surpass us. God bless English tail.
vvvslaxman Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 English tail sucked right through this tour.
