kubrickian Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The openers seem to be out of form but overall the batting hasn't led the team down. 270 was a good score in 1st ODI and 277 in 42 overs in 2nd ODI is pretty good. The bowling is a major problem area. The spinners generally won't make much of an impact here, particularly in our case Ashwin doesn't look like taking wickets. Have to rely lot more on pace and need bowlers who can extract some bounce from the surface if we have to restrict opposition in these conditions. Also need a seamer all rounder who can also be a finisher. Even if you pack the side with 7 batsmen, it will be very tough to chase 350 in 50 overs.

Both raina and Rahane do not belong in odis they cannot play pull or hook , in tests rahane can duck, what is pitiful is these batsmen are making NZ trundlers look like Marshall and Holding. Dhawan has this series to show some thing other wise he can can go to.
saneindian Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The things that you do not want to talk about - captaincy and bowlers picked are exactly the issues which is making the batting line up look bad. Chasing 290+ match after match that too away from home is not easy and batting would start faltering at some stage which is what seeing now. Despite all those struggles, in both the matches one good partnership in the late overs would have seen us through! In addition the batting unit is still evolving. Rohit and Dawan have been a regular pair for a little over 6-7 months, have done reasonably well (including in Eng and WI on tougher pitches) barring the last 3-4 ODIs, Rahane is still finding his feet at number 4. No 5 and 6 have seen a lot of change but Dhoni at 5 and Raina at 6 is the way to go. This line up needs to play a little longer before new set of players are given their opportunities. Bowling however requires urgent changes - no Ishant and Binny/Mishra at 7 instead of Ashwin. Also playing just with 7 batsmen is not an option anymore because earlier we had Ganguly, Sachin, Sehwag and Yuvraj all of whom were good enough to bowl 10 overs. In the current line up Raina and to an extent Rohit, are the only part timers (though Dhoni has been trying his best to extract some overs from Kohli) and both are not even half the bowlers part timers from the earlier era were.

adi B Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I thought the day pishant conceded 30 runs to Faulkner and spelt water over dhoni's magnificent knock,dhoni would throw that. brainless camel outta team but he keeps selecting him and today was a match where dhobi could haves won us had Ishant not conceded those 10-15 extra runs..olds habits comes back to bite dhoni..he still won't drop him

If there is one place where dibbly dobbly bowlers can have some effect that is NZ. Cory anderson is one such bowler. O god we now dont have trundler fans, we also know have dibbly dobbly fans. Then no thanks. Genuinley would prefer pathetic ishant over binny. Thats how bad binny is

If you don't select proper players who are worthy of wearing Indian jersey then prepare to face even more humiliation further this year with many overseas trips..get ur acts right msd or else face the consequences!!

As for your comment on Rahane, better to judge him after giving him a run. Hasn't looked out of depth at all.
