Looked at ODI vs WI. NZ cant bat on green wickets. Actually it wasnt even that green it had some extra bounce and they play very poorly. Dont think its a good idea for them to have green wickets vs India.

India vs NZ, 4th ODI : PreDiscussion Just one more chance for Dhawan 5 failures so far, 23, 33, 13 15, 29 in 3.5 tests after 187 on debut. He can still play the first test in NZ and should be given a break. If Rahane or Gambhir wants it back and are hungrier they should be given chances. NZ will be greener and faster.

If somebody like Vijay can learn in SA, same is expected from Dhawan as well. Attractive 20s from an opener is not useful. Openers should either occupy crease or score big & faster. Maybe #6 could be tried for him as well.

Yes he did, prior to the 4th Test against Australia. He personally asked the management that wants to bat in the middle order. Don't know what you are going on about. He opened for Mumbai only in his first few matches.

Thank God the Lankan selectors did not apply the same yardstick after Marvan Atapattu's start to his test career. Here were his first 6 scores in test cricket - 0,0,0,1,0&0. :phehehe: Shikhar is an attacking batsmen. He's going to have some extremely good days and some extremely bad days. Gotto perserve though.

Agree with this. Once you've discovered talent and potentiall, you don't just discard it after a few 'failures' (I wouldn't say they were outright failures, he just needs to adapt his game better to the long format, play more patiently, basically make a few tweaks to his game). Dhawan has already shown that he has the class to play at this level, now it's a question of giving him the time and opportunities to adapt to it. In this series alone a lot of our players have made changes to adapt to the pitch and the opposition.

We need a attacking opener in tests and dhawan is the right person. Though Im more worried about his technique against seam and swing than short balls.

We can try to find two solid but slow/conservative openers. Or we can try to find one attacking (like Dhawan) and one conservative (M.Vijay). Gavaskar/Srikkanth - Cheeka was the unconventional and unreliable one. But will score quick. Sehwag/ - Sehwag was the unconventional and unreliable one. But scores quick. Dhawan needs to get at least 40-45 average over the long run (Right now his 187 is causing a skew). So that is going to be tough. If he can do 40+ average and score quick - then some unreliable factor can be tolerated. Sehwag was once in a bluemoon player (esp in Tests) for India. Rare hand-eye coordination. If Dhawan fails - are there any good new prospects? (Gambhir needs to get into good form for selection - not just a default pick) One opener should be able to score a bit quicker if the other is conservative.

Yeah just when during the transition period, team seems to be settling down a little bit, lets change the opener! Not happening. The current squad of 17 is going to be around for sometime
