As long as we prepare rank turners at home for tests and slow, flat tracks for ODIs, how can we win in conditions which are different ? The style of play itself is different. On our pitches, spinners pick 80 % of wickets and seamers exist just to stop runs and pick 1 or 2 wickets. How are they going to evolve as good seamers who can set up and get most of the batsmen out ? How are we going to get seamers who hit the deck, generate pace and bounce who are effective here ? Its the same for Australia or New Zealand when they come to sub continent. Australia got whitewashed 4-0 in India in tests, New Zealand got whitewashed 5-0 in Bangladesh in ODIs if I remember correctly. The only thing we can hope is our players play in these conditions regularly and adapt and learn how to bowl in these conditions. Even our previous teams with Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Kumble etc had to go through the same process. They struggled initially overseas and got whitewashed in many series but learned to play there over a period of time.

putrevus Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 In 1990s bowling was okay, it was batting which was spineless and incompetent, other than Kohli we don't have anyone who is competent in both forms and if you add Dhoni and Pujara who are ok in Odi and test respectively. You cannot win matches with team like this.

Flat tracks in India and here are not the same, buddy. There is a difference in pace and bounce. The seamers can get the ball to raise to head or shoulder level here where its more tougher to play the pull and hook whereas in Indian conditions, the ball doesn't raise above waist level and also comes at a slower pace. But Kohli and Dhoni showed they can play well against the short ball here. Rohit and Jadeja have adapted well as they played more. Some others have not been so successful. Same with bowlers. You need seamers who are tall and can hit the deck and generate bounce and pace and also have to be clever with using the short ball. Our seamers are mostly swing bowlers who float the ball across the surface and rarely use the short ball. They are lot less effective here.
