You needed a 4th seamer here, had 6 wickets in the match. I already said these are not the pace bowlers who will pick 10-fers. If you depend on 3 bowlers, you are expecting them to either take 7 wickets each per match, respectively which is not possible or expecting one of them to take 10-fer which they are not capable off. In these conditions, no spinner was going to do much. We saw same in ODIs too, but refused to learn. You needed a 4th seamer who could have shared the load of the 3 seamers. rkt.india Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Same thing happened at Wanderers too. There we had Ashwin who could not do any thing and we missed 4th seamer as our 3 main seamers had to bowl a lot and their effective went down as they number of overs bowled increased.
putrevus Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Both Ashwin & jadeja have failed to impress , they both are responsible for two overseas wins which were converted into draws. indian fast bowlers dont have the ability to take 20 wickets on their own first there is no fourth support bowler who could take load off , you are seeing in port elizabeth spinners have to chip in with wickets to make bowling more potent. The troubling thing with both of them is unless pitches offer them something they cannot take a single wicket.which was evident in odis both in india and away. They both had luxury of big total backing them yet they failed to even create pressure , main reason they both dont have that guile thru the air , there is no revs given to the ball by these two to cause that dip. Ohia is no different we saw very well how slow he is off the pitch during england series but he might be 10% better than these two but his lack of batting & fielding make him worse.

Ojha took a 9'fer in his last game and he hasn't played much overseas so nothing wrong in selecting him. I think he is on par with jaddu on bowling, just that jaddu's batting is keeping him in the XI.

Does not matter if pacers did not do much in Durban because that pitch was not suited to our pacers and they had to play back to back test with a lot of bowling in first test already.

You are bound to get wickets by accident and fatigue of batsmen when you bowl that many overs, even Sehwag got a fifer against Aussies that does not make Sehwag a great spinner.
