Most of these bowlers have played quite a few games - domestics and international, where they do get to bowl at batsmen. They have practiced in nets too. Despite all these, they don't have great results to show. But the superstars don't want to try happily what the coach suggests! I think this would have been an ideal time to have someone like Chappell :orderorder:

The line and length idea is good but its better off against a batsman who would look to counter it rather than a dead set idle mannequin. Our bowlers need more coaching on their mental approach, a plan. Their usual plan is bowl few good deliveries and bang in a casual and pathetic short ball. Most of the batsmen can easily anticipate our bowlers. There are no surprises when they try to bowl 6 'this-is-my-ball-of-the-century' deliveries, an apple pie. Dude area of bowling Yorker is same if batsman move u adjust but practicing hitting perfect Length is not bad approach

Joe Dawes is well and truly a terrible coach, but why can't the players show some respect to him by happily trying out the method? I won't be taking this tournament seriously at all as I'm more looking forward to the duel in the desert against Pakistan come October. You can say I'll be watching it for entertainment purposes.

You can't put up a mannequin instead of some actual coaching. The bowlers seem lost during actual match. The coach is supposed to guide them with that. Well the coach can do what he can but if the players don't listen to him then it isn't his fault. Maybe it is one of several exercises that he had tried with the team and they just haven't followed. Sometimes it is the players' fault and not the coaches and the coaches are always made scapegoats. It's trying to fresh up and try something different. Surely the players can do it and then tell him it doesn't work instead of not doing anything.

Agreed, but there are several other issues he could work with rather than focussing on this. Working with the accuracy could be a good ploy before a T20 tournament, but the coach needs to assist them with even bigger issues for the higher level, Test i.e. A possibility that our bowlers don't bother taking any assistance from Dawes. Its very likely that Ishant could have been approached regarding his technique and the required changes to amend it. Knowing him, and his stubborness, Ishant may have turned a blind eye to it. When they are asked to do something by the coach, the players should abide by it, like it or not. It sounded stupid to me as I was mad at Dawes for not being so responsible during our last 2 Test series. Its after the recent critcism that we hear something helpful or a rather something at all from Dawes. Going by this arrogant act from our bowlers, its really hard to judge whose faults it was all along.

That sums it up then. According to the OP, they have been following the method since the SA tour. Hence, it hasn't helped us in anyway.

Exactly...the previous article I read said the pacers were all busy trying out this mannequin thingy.Maybe it didn't get the result and it is time to dump the mannequin....both the live one and the rubber one. All are pacers are new to the national team with barely much experience on the international scene. I can't believe that they have big egos and swollen heads. Shami,bhuvi,aaron,pandey ,yadav.....which one looks like a guy who wouldn't listen to the coach. They all come across as level headed guys.May not be superbly talented or the smartest ...but definitely not big egos or lazy. It is more likely a case of a lazy or inefficient coach who has been taking it easy all this while,leaving the boys on their own and now feeling the fire on his backside.

Don't go by what they seem like. Just see how many of them turn up for practice. It's not a matter of arrogance only. Virat maybe arrogant, but he seems like a workaholic who is always looking to improve his game. But all these bowlers come into a team with a bunch of skills, hardly ever try to improve on them and eventually fall wayside. But we have such a small resource pool, that the same bowlers get picked over and over again. Ironically, Ishant is the only bowlers who has some stats to show in the last few Tests.
