I had already taken a liking to Dhoni after that first ODI century against Pakis but this innings combined with numerous great chases along with Yuvi made me a Dhoni fan. PS : I used to be a Dravid fan too when I started watching, that 270 against Pakis was what made me like Dravid.

He has NEVER said no to any responsibility and is probably the greatest cricketer of this generation. Younis Khan - A nice, hardworking chap in a team of losers. Figures only mask his contribution to Pakistani and world cricket. His good looks dale steyn ,,by doing his normal business :D ditto

Admire the good shots or the way the player carries himself all you like, but a strict no to fanboyism. It only leads to embarrassment. Honestly, the idolize part was for a particular set of fans. Lurker Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Kapil Dev. Perhaps because he was the first Indian cricketer who looked the part. Most Indian cricketers of his time were medium built, slightly fat, hardly athletic. There were few exceptions of course - Amarnath, Shastri, Vengsarkar but average Indian player looked more like Sunny, Vishy and Kirmani. And here was Kapil. Tall, dapper, athletic. This was more pronounced because he was a fast bowler and looked like one. Quite different from the usual breed of Roger "Kardashian" Binny and Madan Lal. Here was a cricketer who could go toe to toe against the very best in the world..and he did. The first time I saw him in action was in 1985 Benson Hedges series world cup. He belted Richard Hadlee in semi finals and won India the place in finals. And in finals produced a terrific spell to limit Pakistan, including the ball of the tournament that dismissed Qasim Omar. In semis he performed with bat, in finals with ball. And which kid doesn't love an all-rounder? The transformation for me as a child-fan was complete. No other cricketer, Indian or otherwise, would ever come close :winky:

Idolize him because if not for him hundreds of thousands of poor people in Pakistan with cancer would be in graves right now. :hatsoff:

I was still a kid, studying in school, but already a cricket fanatic since the age of 8 and I knew he was going to play for India soon and he did. Waqar Younis. I was a big fan of his bowling, his inswinging yorkers from hell. I modeled my bowling action on him and would try to bowl yorkers like him with tennis or plastic ball with which we used to play as a kid in those days.
