Shami got 4 today. Well deserved and was consistently quick and hostile, ditto Siraj though he went wicketless.

Siraj was just unlucky.

Shami though has been our underrated star :hatsoff:

Shami is top draw bowler in test, his credentials takes a hit in white-ball because of the lack variations.

Ind should/is capable of having different bowlers for different format. But Shami is losing pace lately so Ind team should start looking for next gen pace line-up.

Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhumrah (due to recent injuries) are now fading or not at their prime so Ind should look of equally capable or potentially capable bowlers.

But looks like there is no such plan, Dravid wants to play with them as long as possible and he is brining in Mavi, Mukesh kumar and Unadkat.

Why are they picking more than 15 player for home or Asia series ?

Only place I'd prefer Undercutter to an extent is South Africa...  Prasidh looks done for the year.

It's so sad we haven't groomed a Tall hit the deck pacer.  Shami Siraj won't cut it in SA this year.

Shami has 159 wickets @ 26 in ODIs. Hows that bad?Hes a wicket taker there too.

His pace was up today, bowled upto 142ks. However should bring in Umesh next Test.

Prasidh,Mohsin,Tyagi are all injured. Umran has got his chances. Not a red ball bowler yet.

With all front runners injured or recovering from Injuries Ind should look to invest in Rana (KKR) and Simarnjeet (CSK).

Both seems to have potential.

LAF as Moshin has not been playing Ind should look at Mukesh Choudhary (CSK) he was skiddy reaches 140+ at times, able to bring ball back into RhB and has ball that goes away with angle.

Just needs to develop slog over credentials and some white-ball variations

Bro didn't watch today but watched a bit yesterday. He was bowling at 126-130. Akash was around 135-138. Didn't see Porel's bowling.

Bro, Akashdeep should have been the Team India pacer candidate from Bengal and not Mukesh Kumar.

He has a good FC average too but is quicker, taller, bouncier and much younger than Mukesh.

It's strange what these selectors find in these short trundlers.

I am looking forward to Unadkat bowling in tests outside Asia as the No.8 bowling allrounder.

He feels much quicker to the batters than his release speeds suggest + has steep bounce and height.

Unadkat, the red ball bowler, is much different from the slower ball specialist in T20s.

Kuldeep Sen should be the other tall hit the deck quick if he recovers.

I feel the same. He impressed me quite a bit vs bangla toygers.

him doing well vs toygers doesn't impress me much yet. he is obviously much better than his 2010 version, but I don't consider him intl class

Even if some of them may be  limited, these first class veterans will be able to bowl long spells while being able to maintain their line/length and have some idea on how to set batsmen up. This is something inexperienced pacers who get fast tracked will need to learn on the job in red ball cricket.

Unadkat will probably get bounced (knocked) out by Nortje first over lol.
This years IPL will be fun. Need a couple of bowlers above 90mph and who can generate bounce. They along with the express pace of Umran (150 plus) should be the attack. And hopefully Bumrah back to full fitness.

Without much FC experience, it won't be easy to play these bowlers in test matches.

For test matches, we should look for pacers who are doing well in domestic red ball cricket and have pace and height / bounce.

Harshit Rana of Delhi is shaping up well. He has all these attributes. But not a finished product yet.

Kaverappa of Karnataka has height and bounce but his pace is not known.

Akashdeep of Bengal has all 3 attributes and a low FC average.

Kuldeep Sen of MP is an automatic pick for me in the test squad, if fit

Yes gotta give such bowlers more red ball opportunities. However, a year or so max is enough if you’ve got special ability be it bounce at 90 mph or express pace. I agree that putting them in a test match without adequate workload is gonna result in injuries. Also need that time to develop consistency with the lines.

The thing with Undadkat is that even though he may have some batting ability apparently, I’m not sure he’s good enough for overseas conditions. And the problem with including such players in the team is that, he will invariably end up taking the new ball and probably bowl the most crucial wicket taking overs in the match.

Umran missed most of this Ranji season as he was with the Indian white ball team.

The same may happen with any new pacer who is unearthed in this IPL.

Kuldeep Sen, with sufficient FC experience, is the best option we have as of today regarding a tall, bouncy 145 k pacer for test cricket.

If not Unadkat then they will play Shardul, who has lost red ball fitness IMO plus is much shorter and slower than Unadkat.

7. Jadeja

8. Unadkat

9. Siraj / Shami

10. Bumrah

11. Sen

Would be a good combo for SENAW Tests.

But the TM would replace Sen with Shami and our attack will lack bounce again. We need atleast 2 tall bouncy pacers in the playing 11.

Yes, Sen Bumrah and Siraj would be a good line up provided they all are fit. Will be difficult to drop Shami now. I don’t think Sen is going to be included in LOIs anytime soon. Forget test cricket.

But it’s weird don’t u think? The most promising bowlers get handed over IPL contracts. And then these bowlers are always introduced first  in the shortest format for internationals. And then they can’t be included in test cricket coz they were with the LOI squad. If that’s how it’s gonna be, we’d always end up choosing B grade bowlers for test cricket.

Shardul’s bowling has definitely regressed. He may contribute more than Unadkat with the bat though.
Unadkats a better test bowler and would extract more bounce. But pace wise I think they are similar. I don’t think Unadkat even crossed 135 ( more like 128-132 kph iirc) in the last test match he played. Also with Unadkat in the side, and the way these guys think, he will 100 percent open the bowling attack. At least Shardul would be treated like the way an ‘all-rounder’ should be.
