few points coming up today.

 

1. Shardul is in no way close to Prasidh as a pace bowler. Yes, He bats a little but does india need a Shardul batsman on Indian flat Patta's where any batsman who knows how to hold a bat can score a 50 at will against ANY Attack? i mean Indian pitches do not need a very long batting Line up but genuinely good bowlers 
2. Ashwin is class- way ahead of Washington OR Axar.
3. Shreyas Iyer is CLASS.
4. Sky is a must in Odi too in Indian conditions.

Ashwin's bowling since the second spell in Mohali has been a treat to watch. Don't remember how many wickets he took but boy did he make Aussies look helpless. Last I remember him doing that to Conway, Mitchell, Philips last year in a T20 series in India. 

 

Just beautiful, off spin may be a dying art sadly, but boy was it alive and kicking today.

Not just that, he is the 1st name on my team sheet. If we want to win the world cup, it will have to come on the back of Kuldeep, Siraj, Gill, Iyer....good to great players, but more importantly they don't carry the mental scars of previous ICC KO heartbreaks.

 

Sure Gill has failed 4/4 times in WTC finals but am talking about white ball stuff here. Anyway Gill has too many technical deficiencies to succeed as an opener in Eng (even temperament is an issue), maybe those weren't chokes and just lack of ability.

Shardul's pies won't work in India. Lanka under lights is a different case altogether.

Not drop but rotate to avoid over-exposure in the league stage.

 

There are 9 league stage games and we have to rotate both pacers and spinners to keep them fresh.

We are going with 3 talenders..Boom,Siraj and Kuldeep but we now have great penetration and variety in our bowling.keeping knockout stage in mind..Shardul's batting is unreliable in white balls cricket and bowling is very poor..he is not adding value and waste of spot..

kul is a rhythm bowler. if he goes into KO stages without having enough of a bowl, he is liable to get slaughtered, especially on flat tracks. play him as much as possible.

Umran was firing rockets in that Ipl season. What happened to him? Sad to see him regress. Hope he comes back stronger. Need someone to take him under wings and guide him.

Disagree with this. What Asia Cup and these 2 ODIs have shown is that Ashwin is by far the best finger spinner right now.  Proper wicket taking threat.  He is landing that inswinging slider and turning the ball both ways - proper wicket taking threat. 

 

He is above Jadeja and Axar in the pecking order. 

 

Jadeja hasn't scored at all and his hitting technique is worse than ever.  One fluke boundary to third man doesn't change that. He was looking to rotate strike and when trying to power hit , he was hitting straight to the fielder.

 

Bowling only when better bowlers already broke the game open and when he got hit by Hazlewood, he disappeared only to come back for the last wicket.

 

Cheap wickets don't count and neither do fluke runs.  

 

Ashwin is probably the better hitter at this point.  

 

Thakur has limitations - low release, low pace , poor accuracy, can't bowl with new ball , gives more runs above par at the death than he can ever score with bat,  can only take wickets if wicket is gripping, can't catch or field. 

 

The solution is simple. 

 

If Kuldeep is your best spinner and Ashwin your best false-shot inducing finger spinner,   what is the need for an extra spinner for cover. 

 

If Kuldeep and Ashwin are getting hit, Jadeja will be hidden like yesterday. 

 

Prasidh over Thakur is an obvious call at this point .  

 

But we need another pacer to cover for Jadeja/Axar.

 

Bumrah, Hardik have had back issues in the past. They can't play all games. Shami may have taken a fifer but his speed is not impressive and he doesn't look like he has enough gas in the tank for such a long tournament. 

 

Prasidh also coming back from injury. 

 

So we actually need another pacer to rotate all of them .

 

Ashwin is either back up for Kuldeep if Kuldeep has a niggle and can be played in Chennai/Delhi etc.

 

Also can be played at 8 if a deeper lineup is required. 

 

If we had SKY and Hardik at 6/7, we could have gone even harder and crushed a 420-430 score. 

 

5 pacers + Pandya + Ash + Kuldeep + batters is the way to go. 

 

This defensive idea of playing extra spinner has to stop. If your best 2 spinners or 5 bowlers struggle, the 6th will also struggle .

He had the tools...  A genuine express pacer.   He tried to cut down his pace to gain control due to outside pressure & probably his run up as well.   Likes of Shami saying to him pace is not everything & god knows what other feedback he got. 

We wasted him I think.

Once that carrom/straighter ones land or come out exactly how Ashwin wants..  He is a different beast..  

When an off spinner challenges both edges of the bat he is a different preposition altogether. 

I'll take current Ash over Axar anyday

He has natural pace ,just this year he delivered India's  fastest in an international,he seems apprehensive

Why not, didn't bowl that rubbish in his last over in his last outing for India and was dumped

His line is better than Tyagi as of now ,just needs some encouraging inputs
