Sri prime with his pace and bounce should ha e had lot better figures. He was unlucky to be born in that era and had zero support from other side. You just play him and kumble out then easy peasy. Smash the rest. If he was born in current era with current gen indian bowlers, he would be a 24 averaging bowler Instead of 29. I remember many times he was overbowled cause we had no one else Jayasuriya used to smack around everyone but he had issues with Sri. singhvivek141 1
ind_hyd1 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Why is Lord Chahar not playing Ranji Trophy. Sad to see Kuldeep Sen, Simarjeet Singh,Akash Singh, Rajyavardhan,Mukesh Choudhary,Mayank YAdav etc. not playing the premier domestic competition.
tapandrun Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Never in favour of comparing player from different era, pre-speedometer ara there would have been many bowlers bowling at v.high pace in their prime. Have heard many top-batters mentioning Waqar was fastest they faced, Donald was also rapid there would be many in-between. We have seen many bowlers had a sudden drop in pace -Pathan, Amir, Rabada, Shaheen so saying that pre-speedometer era bowlers were not that fast would not be a completely true statement. With nothing to refer they might have not know that their pace is decreasing and they had rather long carrier so dip in pace is something going to happen. Post-Speedometer bowlers had something to refer to and know where their pace is, heard Akthar mentioning that at one point he was not able to push beyond a certain pace, then he had to work hard and then Both Lee and him had a sort of competition which they have mentioned quite openly in recent past , they had motivation and a reference to check back where they are at all the time which pre-speedometer bowlers didnt have. Apart from Lee, Akthar, Tait there wont be many who have maintained express pace through out their carrier. Only Wood has been able to achieve express pace post 30s after returning from injury which is nearly unheard of singhvivek141 1

If he was 33 in 98 ish and bowled quick enough then yea 5 years prior to that, he could easily be 150. But still he never seemed quicker than Hayward to me Bro, how many matches did Natie Hayward play anyway? Hayward was very wayward too! He could bowl in the initial 150's. When Hayward came into the scene, Donald was way past his prime, how would their pace seem similar?

Our batsmen never struggled vs nantie. Average bowler. He was like mohammed same but even faster Dint play much. Yea he would have been in his prime when donnie boy was close to the fag end of his career. Still he was rapid. Like real quick though. Morkel is an underrated guy. Imo he was every bit as quick as any of the fastest bowlers in his prime. Even his low 140s just appeared lot quicker than lot of the bowlers who bowled 150.

Md Sami started as medium-fast medium. Around 138-142 bowler. And all of a sudden from the 2nd to 3rd of his career started bowling really quick. But never had the quality. harpicP 1

Majority of the world class fast bowlers have operated in this 135-145kph category, very less outside of this bracket. Bumrah, Cummins, Hazelwood, Ambrose, Anderson, McGrath, Gillespie, Akram, Lilee, Holding, Ambrose, Waqar, Srinath, Rabada, Boult, Shami and many more are in this range. Likes of Philander, Pollock, Walsh, Hadlee, Kapil, Southee are the only ones I can recall who were in 125-135 pace range and were successful. Out of which Pollock, Hadlee & Kapil were allrounders. Similarly in 145+ pace range I think Bond, Marshall, Thomson, Akhtar, Starc, Donald are the only ones who were regarded as the successful fast bowlers. Johnson was another one who found his success when he started bowling at his brute speed albeit only for a brief period. Holding might be one of the fastest bowlers ever,Holding had no great skills other than being accurate and ability to generate bounce due to his height.Holding at his best was easily as fast any Lee or Akthar just more deadly than either of them due to his accuracy. Marshall was not express but he could crank it up when needed but he still is the most skillful bowler who have played this game. Edited January 11, 2024 by putrevus singhvivek141 and harpicP 1 1

Agree with morkel, so difficult to get away, rahane played him well in that innings in 2015 world cup game, Steven finn in 2011 odi series in India was breathing fire, consistent 145kph plus, remember merchant de Lange that man was a tank and express, ngam another express pacer from South Africa. harpicP 1
